         <description><![CDATA[<div>- <strong>Two truths and a lie</strong>.<br>- ‘<strong>Maths’ around the world</strong>. Or ‘verb tenses’ around the world.<br>- <strong>Rumours</strong> or Whispers: in rows, ss pass down a sentence.<br>- <strong>Pictionary</strong>: to practice vocabulary from a unit. <br>- <strong>Charades</strong>: to guess title of a movie without talking<br>- <strong>Vocabulary BINGO</strong>.<br>- <strong>Find someone who</strong> .. (for Present Perfect)<br>- <strong>Find your partner</strong>: strips of paper with beginnings and endings of sentences, or definitions, .. Also, trios or groups.<br>- <strong>Group dictation</strong>: a text is posted outside the classroom and one by one ss go out and memorize one line to dictate to their classmates. At the end of the activity T projects original text and hands out red pens for ss to correct their own dictations. Next, ss write number of mistakes at the bottom and calculate grade/mark according to T’s instructions. <br>- <strong>20 questions</strong> or Who am I? or Mystery celebrity: one student wears headband with name or photo of a famous person and he has to ask his group members questions in order to try to guess mystery celebrity. <br>- <strong>Taboo</strong>: in groups, ss have to give clues to their group so they can guess a mystery word without mentioning taboo words (to practice unit vocab., relative clauses,..)<br>- <strong>Stranger words</strong>: in groups, ss give three definitions of an uncommon word (flabbergasted, obnoxious, overwhelmed, disconvovulated, ..) and the other groups have to guess the correct definition. <br>- <strong>Peggy stole the cookie from the cookie jar</strong>. Who, me? Yes, you. It wasnt me. Then who?          <title>KEY COMPETENCES</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Key Competences and Basic Skills from the EU COMMISSION webpage)</div><div>The Commission works with EU countries to support and reinforce the development of key competences and basic skills for all, from an early age and throughout life.</div><div><br></div><div>Why are key competences and basic skills important? </div><div>Everyone has the right to quality and inclusive education, training and lifelong learning that develops key competences and basic skills. Key competences and basic skills are needed by all for personal fulfilment and development, employability, social inclusion and active citizenship. </div><div><br></div><div>Yet, the 2015 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) results show that one in five pupils in the EU has insufficient proficiency in reading, mathematics or science. </div><div><br></div><div>Compared to the 2012 PISA results, these results show that the share of low achievers has increased to 20.6% (+ 4.0 percentage points) in science, to 19.7%, (+ 1.9 percentage points) in reading and to 22.2%, (+ 0.1 percentage point) in maths. In addition, 44% of the EU population has low or no (19%) digital skills.</div><div><br></div><div>What is the EU doing in this field?</div><div>The European Council has adopted an updated Council Recommendation on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning. The approach of the Recommendation is to promote the development of key competences and basic skills by:</div><div><br></div><div>Providing high-quality education, training and lifelong learning for all</div><div>Supporting educational staff in implementing competence based teaching and learning approaches</div><div>Promoting a variety of learning approaches and contexts in a lifelong learning perspective</div><div>Exploring approaches to assessment and the validation of key competences</div><div>What are the next steps? </div><div>As part of the framework for European policy cooperation in education and training (ET 2020), EU Member States have set the objective that less than 15% of 15-year-olds should be classed as 'low-achieving' in basic skills by 2020. This target will be evaluated against the new PISA data which will become available in early December 2019.</div><div><br></div><div>The Commission supports EU Member States to strengthen basic skills and key competences for all citizens by facilitating mutual learning and the exchange of best practices.<br><br><a href="https://www.erasmusplus.org.uk/file/272/download?md=yzx">https://www.erasmusplus.org.uk/file/272/download?md=yzx</a></div>]]></description>
