Practiced at home and learn the song
Put the most iconic song at the start of the set to grab the crowds attention
Practicing with the band and learning and getting the song tight
Playing the song at the venue well and transitioning well between songs.

I need to be aware and watch out for the monitor levels as I am brining pedals and don't want to drown everyone out.

I listen to the songs to get familiar with how they go.

We took band photos for promotion.

We updated the setlist for songs we are more comfortable with and we think the crowd would enjoy more.

New setlist: I wanna be adored, Jumping Jack flash, When I come around, Dez's Original, Sally cinnamon, Its a shame about Ray.

Dez has written a song and we have all added parts that fit. Ive added a solo and changed the build up bit to different chords to change things up. The chord shapes I play have also changed and I do a little lick when the chords repeat.

After the show we will ask for tips so we can donate to charity.

The setlist has been changed numerous times, but we have agreed on a final set. It was originally:

Genre:
Our band will play multiple genres at the Mashhouse, such as Punk, Britpop, Classic Rock and more.

When I come around is a punk song by the band Green day. It leans more towards pop punk as its not as fast (98 bpm) and and its lyrical content is less about societal and political issues and instead is about love and a young mans feelings towards a girl. This is different to many Green day songs, such as American Idiot, which talks about how America impacts the rest of the world. It is played in F# Major in the studio recording and we play it in the same key.

I wanna be adored is a Britpop song in the key of G Major but is also in E Minor. I believe the bass line is in G Major while the lead guitar is played in E Minor which creates very interesting and more complex soundscape.

Jumpin' Jack flash is a classic rock song from the band the Rolling Stones. Classic rock is often characterised by its primitive use of distortion, often shouted vocals, and an overall more bluesy sound than bands that would come after in the genre. It is in B flat Major and is played in open E tuning but is slightly off from the standard 440hz (tuned E-B-E-G#-B-E)
There are multiple bands we take inspiration from. Some are:
Greenday, The Stone Roses, Oasis and the Beatles.
People who grew up with the music will likely be the audience to our band.

I will use effects pedals to try get as close as I can to the guitar tones that were used in the recordings of each song we are covering. For I wanna be Adored I will bring a chorus pedal, John uses an Ibanez CZ-9 which I do not have but will try to emulate with the amp or with the chorus I own.

He also uses a lot of reverb, delay and distortion for the lead parts which I should be able to get on my amp, but will use a distortion pedal instead of the amp settings
I will be playing lead guitar and drums during the performance.

It is played slightly differently from the studio recording, with less guitar tracks, a longer intro and less polished vocals. I will watch it to see how they play the songs without the enhanced vocals and extra Guitar tracks.

Practices

We have been practicing our set for a while and are getting the songs down quite well. I believe that Jumpin' Jack Flash is our best song so far with I Wanna be Adored second.

Our next practice as of the 29th of April is on the 30th. We will have another two practices next week on the Tuesday and Wednesday. The week after we are playing the Mash House

We had a practice on Monday 12th of May. We played through the setlist twice and finished Sally cinnamon and Dez original song which I think is coming together well.

Our gig and last practice is tomorrow on Wednesday the 13th of May. We will come to the college in our suits and then play through the setlist and finish up on any of the songs that need to be worked on. This will help us get a feel for playing on the stage.

Our name was decided by Dez. Rory suggested Sunshine Revolver which I was happy with as it displays our sound better, but Dez was adamant with the name "The Cover".

We play I wanna be adored with less effects but I'm hoping to bring some pedals in to add more texture to my guitar tone. As for jumpin' Jack flash, our version is more distorted and heavy, with more use of effects like reverb and delay. We are planning on wearing suits, this would give us all an original appearance that not many other bands, if any, will be going for. Our stage plan is as follows. We will all enter the stage at 7:15 and I will plug into my already set up pedal board. I will stand far right, Cayden will stand middle and Rory will be on the right. Dez will introduce the band after I wanna be adored and just before Jumpin Jack flash. He will also introduce our last song and say goodbye after the set is finished. These are the strings I will be putting on my guitar. I like how these strings feel in comparison to others as they have more tension and are thicker. This helps me not go over the desired pitch with bends.

Sound Check

The soundcheck went okay. We started with Dez and his vocals, then going to the drum kit. Rory was next with backing vocals and bass. It was then my turn. I was nervous that the sound person would get frustrated by my pedal use so kept it to a minimum, not using my big muff fuzz, as I had heard that she wasn't very patient and didn't want to annoy her by using up more of their time and adding significant pressure. None of us were aware how loud the crowd would be, and so set our monitors a lot quieter than they should have been which ended up making it hard to hear during the performance.

The Gig

Everyone was nervous at the start, and the fact that we were struggling to hear each other made our nerves worse, but as the set went on we got more and more comfortable. You can hear that we get better and better as the songs go on, with I wanna be adored being our weakest, and the original being our strongest (in my opinion) with when I come around being second best. Overall I had a good time had people in the crowd telling me good job when I came off. I liked my solo for the original song. I was unhappy with the audio quality as they would turn me down whenever I turned distortion on, which removed the impact and change that turning effects on has.

The original is called what it takes.

In the end, me and Dez didnt end up switching between drums and guitar as he couldnt get the second part down. I was getting good at the drum part.

I am a big fan of J's lead playing and Kevins textures and effect usage, along with both of their song writing and overall approach to playing guitar. I want to try and emulate their styles of playing and insert it into the covers we are doing, but with my own spin on it.

For the original song (what it takes), Dez wrote the lyrics and came up with the chords, I came up with a lead guitar part, consisting of octaves and a short lead part at the end when the part repeats, as well as a solo nearer the end. Rory came up with the bass part that mostly consists of root notes, and Cayden chose to play power chords instead of open chords to drive the song more and to make it hit harder. I taught him the power chords to play.
