The nurse confuses Juliet and makes her believe that Romeo is dead, making her completely distraught. Juliet wishes that her body is buried in the earth, "vile earth, to earth resign," and she wants to "end motion here", meaning she wants to die. The word "vile" portrays how much she loves Romeo and how cruel the world is for have killing him. The word resign is usually associated with quitting a job, Juliet uses it here to show that she wants to end her life if she cannot be with Romeo, we get a sense that even though they have only known each other for a small while their love is deep.

After Juliet finds out that Tybalt is dead and that Romeo was the one who killed him she goes through a range of emotions. She gets extremely angry and upset at Romeo and cannot believe that her seemingly angelic lover could do such a thing. She states, "Dove feathered raven, wolvish-ravening lamb," through these derogatory phrases we can see her anger and frustration. The use of the oxymorons, "wolvish- ravening lamb," connotes that she thinks that Romeo is not always like he first appears. A lamb is something used to describe purity and innocence and to be put next to a almost monster like creature shows a loss of innocence.

Finally, towards the end of the scene, Juliet asks the nurse to find Romeo and to "Give this ring to my true knight," the word "Knight" connotes that she is a damsel in distress, she was distressed earlier in the scene, and needs Romeo to rescue her. This could possibly mean that she needs him to rescue her from her parents and their wishes to make her marry Paris, who she doesn't love or simply to just get out of Verona. In addition, in Baz Luhrmann's version Romeo is dressed as a knight in the party scene, showing that he is ready to fight for Juliet

In Act 3 Scene 2, Shakespeare focuses on love and hate, flicking back and forth between these emotions, conveying just how strong they are and their ability to overcome a person. The scene commences with Juliet's soliloquy, professing her love out loud for Romeo, unaware of the deaths of both Tybalt and Mercutio.

She wishes that the day would come to an end and the sun would set 'toward Phoebus' lodging' (the west), as Romeo will supposedly arrive at night. She loves him so much that she says when she dies 'take him and cut him out in little stars', which means that she wants him to be turned into stars so that he can be formed into a constellation. Juliet says that Romeo 'will make the face of heaven'' and that everyone will love the night and pay no attention to the 'garish sun', meaning that he fills up her skies and means the world to her. Shakespeare conveys how much Juliet has changed through the course of the play, for once she was obedient and was intended to marry a man her father had chosen, to Act 3 Scene 2, where she is married and succumbed to Romeo. She is certain at this point that Romeo is her all and nothing can come between them.

However, as her Nurse enters, Juliet becomes aware of the murderous events that had previously occurred and what was love transforms to hate. Juliet learns that it is Romeo who killed Tybalt in line 70 and immediately begins to speak in a foul manner about him. From lines 73 - 84, Juliet curses Romeo, calling him a 'serpent' disguised as a flower, a 'raven' with a dove's feathers and a 'wolf-ravening lamb' (a lamb which hunts like a wolf). Shakespeare perhaps does this to show that Juliet does still love her family as much as she loves Romeo. Also, that hate can suddenly overpower love, no matter how strong your feelings may be.

When Juliet's Nurse then continues to curse Romeo as well, Juliet speaks against her and hopes for blisters upon her Nurse's tongue 'for such a wish!' She calls herself a 'beast' for being angry at him and when her Nurse asks whether she would speak highly of the person who killed her cousin, Juliet replies that she will, as her 'husband lives that Tybalt would have slain'. Juliet says that 'all this is comfort' so why should she cry over the situation, Romeo is alive and 'some word there was, worser than Tybalt's death'. Shakespeare implies that maybe love is stronger than hate, as Juliet does overcome the brief period of hating Romeo and goes back to calling him an honoured man. Moreover, he conveys that when you are in love, nothing else matters (even if your other half murdered a family member!)

Overall, Shakespeare looks at the two conflicting emotions and how they effect Juliet in particular. She experiences both love and hate, but eventually, it was love that won the fight in this specific scene, conveying that perhaps love and hate don't balance out, but that love does manage to overpower hate, even in the toughest situations with unfortunate outcomes.
