<title>Students are highly engaged when something involves working with a partner, some type of creativity, as well as personal connection on the student&#39;s part. They may be creating a poster or performing a writing piece that they have a choice of sharing something about themselves. When it involves a personal connection students are highly motivated. </title>

<title>Group/partner writing projects are a time when my students show great engagement. Recently I had numerous partners creating books following the If You Give A Mouse a Cookie book style. Partners chose an animal and food for their title, then worked together to create a circular story. Most sets of partners spent 4-5 days to go through the writing process and it was clear their level of enthusiasm to get to their writing project. Giving students choice and eliminating time constraints seems to be two important factors in allowing true engagement.</title>
