The Mayans were advanced due to the improved technologies that they invented. Some of the new technologies were calendars and the first form of the alphabet. One example of this in the text is from the last two sentences where it states many of the technologies that were made. The Mayans relationship with the gods were serious because they had festivals and they even sacrificed themselves for them. In paragraph 2, it mentions that they also sacrificed other animals like turtles, crocodiles and dogs.

Based on the text, the Mayan civilization was heavily influenced by religion. In the second paragraph, it mentions that the Mayans believed that the sun was lit by the gods who sacrificed themselves to initiate it and as consequence, the sun's energy had to be replenished by human blood. It can be said that the Mayans way of life was greatly impacted by religion because in response to their belief of the sun being lit by the gods they practiced bloodletting.
