Now, we have laws that create equal environments for everyone, no matter their race, religion, or gender. Today, children like us know that laws back then were unfair and that history teaches us not to make the same mistakes again.

For an example, colored people couldn't go to the same public facilities as whites did. It was also unfair for white people because they couldn't go to any public places with their colored friends.
