I chose this photo because it represents photosynthesis in our environment. We as humans produce carbon dioxide (harmful for us to breath), but is necessary for a plants survival. The plant works in harmony with us and uses the carbon dioxide to produce oxygen, in which we need to survive. It's a balanced harmony.

https://youtu.be/C1_uez5WX1o

I found this video quite helpful for learning about photosynthesis. It describes how important plants are for our survival. It also describes the process in "layman's" terms so that it is easy to understand. I thought the song was pretty catchy. " Every plant can do this fundamental process, and we can call this photosynthesis".

Pinus Taeda is the well know Pine tree that is native to Georgia. It is a Gymnosperm because it reproduces through its pine-cones which are considered "naked seeds." It is a coniferous tree because of the cones that it produces for reproduction purposes. The link https://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=PITA has a lot of additional information about pine trees and the different families that fall under the pine family.

The Rain-forest Biome is the one that I feel is in the most danger of ecological change. The Rain-forest provides around 50% of the oxygen we use on earth. There have been massive fires that have burned a lot of the forest recently, as well as companies clearing the land for construction, or using the trees as timber to sell for profit.

The hierarchy created by domestication of plants in the neolithic period has lived on into today's society. From plant domestication rose different classes of people and allowed skill trades to develop, but in doing so, also created differences in classes of people. Farmers were at the bottom of the pyramid, but were the foundation on which the pyramid is built.

The Third Agricultural Revolution is marked by man being replaced by machine. Mechanized farm implements (e.g. tractors, combines, reapers and pickers) were were replaced by steam and fossil fuel versions. There are many other advancements that fall into this category including GMO's (genetically modified organisms), Preservation techniques (e.g. canning, pickling, additives, freezing, and radiation), Fortified and enriched foods, and Pest-resistant and disease resistant crops.

I think the most influential chemical used in the world that is derived from a plant is medication or drugs. Medication is very important in today's society, as well as the past for treating many life threatening illnesses. Plant based drugs are very common and have been around for hundreds of years.
"In 2001, there were at least 120 distinct chemical substances derived from plants that are considered as important drugs currently in use in one or more countries in the world. " per the website http://www.rain-tree.com/plantdrugs.htm . This website also has a list of drugs and the plants they are derived from, as well as their purpose.

I feel that if we continue on the path we are going, with choosing what plants to grow and cutting down all the current natural ecosystem, then we will end up in a world where we can no longer sustain ourselves. We will be in a society that manufactures everything and it will be so expensive, that most of the world will not be able to afford it and will rally against the governments and will cause more strife and hunger. We will lose a good bit of the world population due to no natural resources and what are left, will be regulated by big money or the government.
