1. WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT FOR THIS UNIT - I learned that we had a thing called "genotypes" and things. At the start of the unit, I was horribly confused at what it was and now I know! I sort of wanted to learn this stuff before, and I'm happy because this unit really helped! I'm also satisfied that I actually understood things in this unit, since I NEVER understand things (like Jory) The family tree project was a fun but interesting (and kind of hard) AND helpful project. Like Jory said, the family tree project was an easy/helpful way to understand the things I didn't understand/know. It also helped A LOT to understand the unit! I enjoyed it!!
2. WHAT I LEARNED ABOUT MY FAMILY - I learned that SO MANY people have smile lines, and I never even realized that until now! I also learned that my nose is kind of between my dad and my mom. It's mostly like my dad's, though. My eyebrows are also kind of mixed between my dad and mom's. My smile isn't really alike to anyone. I also realized that some people already have smile lines when they aren't even smiling that much, and some people only have it when they're smiling. <del>
</del>3. WHAT I STILL WONDER ABOUT - I still wonder about
4. TOOLS FOR THIS PROJECT - I got help from my sister, since she did the same project 2 years ago. I used her pictures that were inside a doc. I also got help from my aunt, who visited us from Korea at the right time so that I can get pictures! They were both big help.
CHALLENGES - I think the challenges were

What were the biggest challenges?
I feel like I did have the tools I needed other than the pictures which I was lacking the grandparents on my dad's side and all my great grandparents. The biggest challenges were explaining what I thought and finding the pictures.
What did you learn about the laws of inheritance for traits?
I learnt that because you get 50% of your DNA from your mom and 50% from your dad, the specific trait will either be the one that either your dad or mom has unless it's a mixed dominance trait where it will probably be in between.
What do you still wonder about genetics?
Do genetic experiments often fail? What would happen if you transferred a gene from one animal to another animal of a different species?

1) I learned that I do look like a lot of people and that a lot of people have the same traits as other people in my family.
2) That everyone in you family has a lest one trait that you have. Or they can have more. You can also see that s lot of people have the same type of hair or hair color.
3) How do you get the same thing from you great grandparents that has been passed down through a couple of generations? I thought that it would have kinda gone away because it has been around for a long time and it does not make that much since to me.
4) Yes, I think that I had everything I needed but one picture. I think that one easy part was putting them on the paper and looking for the traits. I think that the hardest part was finding some photos of my great grandparents. I also think that the punnett squares where a little hard because I did not understand them. But when I figured it out it was much easier and i did four of them.

What did you learn about the laws of inheritance for traits?
I learned that you get half of your DNA from each of your parents. I also learned that the probability of a child having a trait is not affected by what child was born before. I also learned that in order for someone to be a carrier of a trait, that trait has to be recessive.
What did you learn about your family through this project?
I learned that my mom's side has a lot of people with round faces and dark straight hair. I also learned that my dad's side has some people with curly hair and some with straight hair. I found this to be interesting because I always considered my dad's side to be all curly haired. I also found out that there were a few people missing from my family tree, which I again, never really considered.
Do you feel like you had the tools you needed to complete this project? What were the biggest challenges?
I feel like I certainly could've thought deeper about my family's traits if I had more time, but other than that, I think I had the tools needed to complete this project. The biggest challenge was probably trying to find pictures of my missing family members but in the end I couldn't.

What do you still wonder about genetics?
I wonder if there is a more advanced and more accurate way of figuring out different traits and inheritance instead of using the Punnet Square Also, how do traits become dominant or recessive over time? And does that relate to evolution? What do traits have to do with evolution?

What did you learn about your family through this project?
I learnt that I inherited my nose shape from the maternal side and that my great grandpa was Japanese! I also learnt that I have most of the same traits as my brother probably explaining why I look so much like him and why everyone says that we look alike. My sister on the other hand has almost the same traits as me except for our eye shape which she got from the paternal side of the family.

What did you learn about the laws of inheritance for traits?
I learnt that genes are recessive and both of your parents have to carry a recessive gene for you to inherit that gene. But if one of your parents have a dominant gene you are more likely to get the dominant gene since it is the stronger than the recessive gene.

Do you feel like you had the tools you needed to complete this project? Even Evan said that my mom looked like my dad's mom but they are not genetically related!

What do you still wonder about genetics?
I wonder if you can actually change genetics to make yourself look different like you have straight hair then you can change your genetics to make you have curly hair.

What I learned about my family - I learned that I got my ears from my Great-grandpa Mr.Goro. My sister's ears are still a mystery. I also learned a lot about the inheritance of chin/jaw shape and unibrows/non-unibrows/just eyebrows itself. AND, I learned about the shape of noses in the family. I inherited my chin shape from my mom's side, and maybe my dad's side too, because his sister has the same chin as me, even though no one from her side has that... I inherited my nose from my dad's side. My unibrows come from my mom's side, but maybe my dad's side too, because somehow, my aunt has it, while no one else on her side has it. From that, I learned that you can inherit a lot recessive genes, which I think is what happened to my aunt, and look a bit different, but still be family. I also learned that I have the same genotypes as my sister (chin shape, nose shape, unibrow), while my parents basically have opposite genotypes!
Tools + Challenges - I think I DID have the tools I needed to complete this project. I think that if I had a picture of uncle-who-is-married-to-Aunt-Yukino, and all great-grandparents, that would be better. (I had a picture of them, but I got them too late) I think that the biggest challenge was finding the unibrows and the non-unibrows, since many of the women have probably shaved them off or something. I also had trouble finding pictures of great-grandparents - but found out that around 3/4 of them's pictures were burned in WW2.
Law of inheritance - I learned that dominant traits will be more likely to be passed down to children that recessive traits. I also learned that if a dad (my uncle) has square jaw, and the mom (the aunt) has a round jaw, the kid (my cousin) might end up getting an in-between-nuetral chin. I learned that you can figure out how someone might look like by using the very useful punnet squares!!
Wonders about genetics - Is it possible to change genetics? For example, if someone had some kind of disorder, would they (people in the future) be able to fix it? If someone altered someone elses genes, would they immediately look different? Or, would they just be not human - because they're missing some stuff?

What did you learn about your family through this project? I learned that I got my nose from my dads side. All the people in my dads side has noses that are pretty round shaped. I also learned MORE about my chin shape and face shape.

Do you feel like you had the tools you needed to complete this project? What were the biggest challenges? I needed tools for the project like getting the photos so I can flue them and examine the photo, so that I could actually finish the project. It was challenging for me to get my great grandparents from my dads side, because they live far away. On the other hand, I easily got the photos from my moms side because they live closer, and because we have a closer relationship. So I think that part was the MOST CHALLENGING part.

What did you learn about the laws of inheritance for traits? I learned that you get BOTH your parents gene, even though you might look similar to one than the other. I also learned many different vocabulary words, like alleles, genotypes, and so much more!

What did you learn about the laws of inheritance for traits? I wonder why my mom has curly hair, but I don't. My grandma also has curly hair, so I think that I should be having MORE curly hair than I have right now.

?!?!

The most challenging part was to find all the trait that wanted to look at because I didn't know which ones were the best to choose and which ones where the eases to find because I did not have that much time.
I learned a lot about my family for example I did not know that my grandma mom had curly hair because nobody els on that side had curly hair. I also saw that a lot of people in my family had pointy chins and not that many had round chins.

I wonder how nobody on my moms side had curly hair except for one person I wonder where that curly hair went.
I learned that we get half of our DNA from our mom and the other half from our dad. I also learned that there are recessive and dominant genes I did not know any thing about genetics before this but now I know a lot more.
