There are three factors in this chapter that were mentioned that have a lot of influence on individual's health. They include school, community, and media. The first one is school. School is one of the biggest factors that contribute to an individual's development. The main way school influences teens are behavioral actions, "School influences adolescent risk behaviors in many aspects. Schools have broad structural characteristics that vary" (Community, Media, and School, 6). The setting, mood, and people that are all at the school can contribute to the individual's behavioral actions in a positive or negative way. The next factor is community. Community also has many influences on individual's actions. Living in a well rounded community can have positive effects on adolescents. In some cases it can be more helpful to one gender than the other, "Living in an affluent neighborhood where the residents are college-educated professionals is associated with advantages for adolescents' academic achievement, although more so for adolescent boys than for girls" (Community, Media, and School, 7). These positive influences can effect the individual in a short and long term way. They can not only work better in school in the present but they can also take that hard work ethic into their future career. The last factor of this chapter was media. Media is everywhere in our everyday lives. The media effects people in both positive and negative ways. Depending on what they see determines how it will effect them, "Social learning theory, which has also been applied in the study of media violence, suggests that when individuals see a behavior portrayed in a positive way, they have a tendency to imitate and adopt it" (Community, Media, and School, 8). Since media is everywhere, it is always effecting us. These three factors are the ways that can effect us socially and behaviorally.

School has had a major effect on me. They put out rankings, showing where you are ranked within your grade. I started out as 55/408 my freshman year. This year, I moved up 6 spaces and now I am 49/408. This ranking encourages everyone to want to move up the chart and compete for the top 10, but it is hard to get there. You have to have a really high G.P.A to move to the top of the chart. The only way to get there is to take many honors classes, which I do, but there is a negative effect to this as well. It effects my health in bad ways. To be in all honors classes, you have to do a ton of work and sometimes I have 6 tests in one day. This puts a ton of stress on not only me, but the people around me as well. It also greatly impacts my sleep, each night I get an average of about 5 hours of sleep. This directly effects my health and my work effort. School definitely effects my behavior in both positive and negative ways. I work hard to maintain my grades, but a lot of times, it is effecting me in more harmful ways than beneficial ways.
