Read the provided short story(fairy tales) in pairs within 15 minutes and discuss how do you wish to act out the story in the form of a drama.

Then each pair will have to play a short drama for 10 minutes. You will be evaluated by 2 teachers by using norm based grading rubrics. Likert scale will be used where each Criterion will be graded 1-5 marks.

At the end, both the teachers will moderate the marks and provide feedback to learners within 5 minutes.

The criterion will include accuracy of speech, fluency of speech, word choices ,body language, group contribution, and flow of the performance ( if the timeline or order of the drama is smooth or very messy )

The test aims to test if students are able to perform in real-life with appropriate language within a certain period of time given. Additionally, the test aims to evaluate if students are able to communicate and collaborate with their peers to produce an appropriate drama play based on the short stories provided.

Test on Analysis (15 minutes) - Candidates will read a news article and summarise the main points through identifying the author's perspective.

Test on Writing (30 minutes) - Candidates will be given a news article/interview scripts and are required to write in a concise and informative journalistic way.

-Task: a short script-read and perform.

-Input: Age-appropriate scripts (age: 7-9 ).

-Instructions: read the script, understand the characters and context, and perform; Interact with others in English

2. Evidence Specification:

-Expected Response: appropriate reading skills, script understanding, intonation, and gestures. interact with others in English, engaging in dialogues.

-Scoring: Speaking (fluency, pronunciation), script understanding, appropriate expressions and gestures, and interaction with others.

3. Test-Assembly Specification:

- Number of Items: Each child will perform one script.

- Range of Items: Scripts - variety of themes and genres for 7–9-year-old kids.

4. Presentation Specification:

- Formatting: clear and easily readable format Scripts.

- Design: visually appealing and engaging materials, with illustrations or relevant images.

5. Delivery Specification:

- Administration: individually or in small groups

- Security: securely stored and distributed test materials

- Timing: 30 minutes per child (attention span)

I will prepare two copies for each student and highlight the dialogue using different colours. The duration will be 30-40 mins for each pair. It will be conducted in this way:

1. Bring two students at a time

2. Ask a question “Tell me in one sentence what you know about this story” and students will answer one by one

3. Ask children to pair up and give handouts to them

4. Ask children to act out the story

5. Give a short feedback to the students

Objective:

The primary objective of this test is to assess the basic English language proficiency and interpersonal skills of children aged 7-9, ensuring they can follow instructions, read age-appropriate scripts, perform basic dramatic roles, and interact effectively with peers in an English-speaking drama setting.

Duration:

30 minutes per child

Components:

1. Language Proficiency Assessment (10 minutes)

- Objective: To evaluate the child's ability to understand and speak English at a level appropriate for their age.

- Method: A series of picture-based prompts will be used for this part. The child will be asked to describe what they see in the pictures, answer simple questions about them, and follow a few verbal instructions to demonstrate comprehension.

2. Script Reading and Performance(10 minutes)

- Objective: To assess the child’s ability to read aloud age-appropriate scripts and convey basic emotions or actions as described in the script.

- Method: The child will be given a short, simple script from a child-friendly play or story. They will first be asked to read a portion of the script aloud to assess reading ability. Then, they will perform a short section of the script to demonstrate basic acting skills, such as expressing happiness, sadness, or surprise.

3. Group Interaction and Collaboration (10 minutes)

- Objective: To evaluate the child's ability to interact with peers in a collaborative setting, essential for participating in drama activities.

- Method: In a small group (3-4 children), the children will be given a simple scenario or problem to solve together, related to a story or dramatic situation. Observers will look for the ability to communicate ideas, listen to others, and work towards a common goal.

Administration:

- The test will be administered by a combination of drama teachers and English language specialists.

- Each component will be scored on a simple scale (e.g., 1-5) based on predetermined criteria, with guidelines for what constitutes a satisfactory level of performance for entry into the drama centre.

Validity and Reliability:

- Content Validity: The test components are directly related to the key skills required for participation in the drama centre, ensuring content validity.

- Reliability: To improve reliability, the test will be piloted with a small group of children to ensure instructions are clear and that the assessment criteria are consistently interpreted by different assessors.

Practical Considerations:

- The test should be designed to be engaging and stress-free for children, using materials and prompts that are age-appropriate and interesting.

- Assessors should be trained not only in the mechanics of administering the test but also in creating a warm, supportive environment to help children perform to the best of their abilities.

Follow-Up:

- Children who meet the entry criteria will be invited to join the drama centre.

- For children who do not meet the initial criteria, recommendations for preparatory activities or programs to improve their skills before reapplying will be provided.

1.Reading Comprehension (15 minutes):

a)Multiple-choice questions based on an article related to current affairs to assess the ability to identify main ideas and details.

b)True/false questions related to the inference of information from the article.

2.Writing Skill Assessment (15 minutes):

a)Summarization task: Provide a short news report and ask candidates to write a summary in a specified word limit.

b)Short news report task: Give a set of facts or data about a recent event and ask candidates to write a brief news report.

3.Listening Comprehension (10 minutes):

Multiple-choice questions based on a short audio clip simulating a news broadcast or interview to evaluate understanding and information retrieval.

4.Speaking Skill Assessment (15 minutes per candidate, conducted individually):

Structured interview: Simulate a press conference scenario where the candidate is asked to respond to questions from the "press.

Age: 7-9, unisex, proficient in english skills

sections: 10 mins script reading, 15min (3x5min) act out different scenes, 5 min feedback. The assessment rubrics focus on scale 1-5

Test method: Each scene focus on (respectively)

1)ability to flow (interaction) with other actor,

2) able to follow the script (reading and speaking),

3) and able to express out the emotions.

Language situation:
In a formal setting (disney movie)

language skills/elements - lexical and grammatical, low processing skills, social, context, interactive skills , reading, speaking skills

listening and speaking could be tested in a communicative situation, such as interview, discussion, content could be connected to daily life conversations and academic needs.

reading and writing section Mainly is paper test, focusing on the academic papers and essay writing

• Test type: both spoken and written.  Listening and speaking materials could be more authentic, but reading and writing could be more academic, passages could be digested from journals and magazines
