         <title>The Tallmadge Amendment</title>

         <title>The Missouri Compromise </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>In 1820</strong>, with this compromise, Missouri would be admitted as a slave state and the state Maine, would be a free state in the North. Along with that, the 36, 30 line is now in action and no slavery is permitted above it. This gave both the anti and pro slavery sides a well known boundary which was good for both the North and South.</div>]]></description>

         <title>The Nat Turner Rebellion</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>In 1831</strong>, Nat turner who was a slave at the time and six other men went house to house killing all white people they seemed to have found. Eventually the rebellion grew to forty slaves in all. Towards the end, they were able to murder 55 white people in all. In turn, "slave codes" in the South were strengthened.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>In 1854</strong>, the Kansas Nebraska Act was passed which added two new places of settlement for the U.S. The main question at hand was if slavery would or should be allowed in these states. The law let settlers decide for themselves if they themselves would want slavery in the state. Both the North and South were positive towards this act because it gave more of a chance to spread ideologies. </div>]]></description>

The amendment stated that slavery or involuntary servitude would not be allowed in any part of the territory that the U.S acquired from Mexico. The South strongly opposed this as it took away slavery from more South territory. In the end it passed the house but was rejected in the senate. &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <title>Dred Scott Decision </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>In 1857</strong>,&nbsp;Dred Scott, who was a slave at the time, sued the Supreme Court because he believed that he was now a free man due to him being taken into free territory. In the end, The Supreme Court ruled that African Americans were no longer citizens of the U.S and could not sue in the court. The Missouri Compromise was also ruled as unconstitutional so now Congress had no power to make laws when it came to the issue of slavery. This was a major setback for the North and a step forward for the South. </div>]]></description>

Douglas was running pro slavery. Lincoln famously said during the debate "a house divided cannot stand." He believed that the U.S and house could not live divided.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>In 1860-1860</strong>, Abraham Lincoln was able to win the Election of 1860 by votes from the electoral collage. Though, the South would threaten to secede from the Nation if Lincoln was elected because they feared he would abolish slavery. Once the election finished it made the south mad and the Southern states began to secede. These seceded states formed the new country called the Confederate states of America. The North was pleased with the election but not with the secession .</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>In 1861</strong>,&nbsp;after the South seceded Lincoln would say the Southern States had no right to do what they have done. So, Lincoln challenged them to return but after a long stand-off, the Confederate forces attacked fort Sumter in South Carolina. This was a good start for the South and the North would fear more retaliation and attacks from the Confederates.</div>]]></description>
