In flying solo, Mr. Fabiano’s class was supposed to be having a substitute but she was too sick to come that day. Pretty soon the kids arrived and saw a note on the chalkboard saying they would be having a substitute that day. The class voted on telling the office that Mr. fab wasn’t there, but there was only one person who thought it was a bad idea and everybody else said otherwise. The class was mostly pulled together by the girls who tried to make it a day similar to when Mr. Fab was there but after recess when Sky came in with a scrape on his knee it occurred to some of the kids that it might be dangerous. Two hours later they did the rock ritual for Bastian because this was his last day in town before he was going to Hawaii. When it was Rachel’s turn to share her memory she shared with Bastian she said that he was mean to Tommy Feathers a boy who passed away in October. Bastian ran away into the hallway sobbing but it turned out he was crying because his puppy had to go to quarantine. At the school assembly Mr. Peacock asked for all sixth grade teachers to come up front but that's when he found out the secret Mr. Fabiano’s class was holding that day.

    In the book Bridge to Terabithia two children, Jess and Leslie, become friends. Together, they use their imaginations to think of magical creatures that come to life and everything they imagine becomes reality. They name this land Terabithia. They spend their afternoons playing in their make believe land. The only problem is that to get to Terabithia you have to swing on an old, unsecured rope over a deep stream. However tragedy strikes when Leslie passes away trying to get to Terabithia. Jess then has to learn to deal with sadness and this ends up bringing Jess’s family closer together.

These 5 kids do not know each other very well, but that changed when Chet throws Virgil’s backpack down a well. Virgil must get it back because his pet guinea pig is in there. 

Virgil climbs down the ladder and jumps down. When he tries to get back up, he can’t reach the ladder and he is stuck. And his phone is cracked and broke.

Meanwhile, Valencia is going to Gen and Kaori’s house to get advice on her nightmare. But, before she gets there, Kaori realizes that Virgil had not come by, so she uses her crystals to see where he is. The crystals told her, he had been held up somehow. When Valencia gets there, they all decide to find him. 

In the woods they try to perform a ceremony, but that failed when they almost set a forest fire. They heard someone scream for help and as they walked toward it, they found Chet with a snakebit, but he was not the one who actually yelled.

While Gen and Kaori are with Chet, Valencia pieces it all together. While she was walking the woods that day, she put the cover over the well, but usually it was never off. It was their only hope to check the well.

When they went to the well, they yelled down and Virgil responded. Gen, who loves to jump rope, used her rope to pull him out.
In the end, Virgil became braver.
