Carefully examine the illustrations and consider the points of view being used.
3. Examine aspects related to scale as you consider the illustrations and how these may impact the story.
4. Consider if page spreads are depicting happy or sad events. How is this achieved in words and pictures?
5. Whose point of view is not represented?
6. In pairs write a paragraph about what Bob Graham is saying about the world through the variety of points of view presented in the text.
7.

2. Things happening in one house and at the same time capturing things happening in the whole world. Many different perspectives shown. Then centered back to that one house where story started.

3. Scale is to show what's happening around, the moments around, lens shifting from smaller zone to the bigger picture. Things happening around are normal for one or significant and special for the other. The idea of movement signifying change, transition. Even under one roof three different persons doing different things. At the very moment a lot is happening around the world.

Saloni, Nidha, Ruchika, Sneha

4. The background colors would be dull in sad events and brighter colors for happy events. The choice of background images. Happy events would be shown as vibrant characters. The picture of the lady carrying the cart looked sad in tone of the words. The picture of soldier and his mother looked sad hugging each other goodbye. The music in the read-aloud lowers down in the sad events. The happy moments have been captured in the way sunlight is shown bright in the imaged. Sunlight depicts the life. There was another hug, but it was a happy hug when the child walked for the first time.

5. The story is in the narrator's point of view. The actual voice of the characters is missing.

6. It's a blend of different emotions with persistent sunlight. That shows we really can hold on to the hope amidst gloom. The author is trying to show different perspectives by showing various scenes around the world at the same moment.

7. Mother bidding goodbye to her soldier son.
Before the scene: Son visiting mother after a very long time for celebrating her birthday.
After the scene: Mother is sitting alone consoling herself.

Answer 4. The author has used subtle and dull shades for every picture showing emotions without emphasising on any kind of emotion. he has left reader to interpret his own perspective.
Answer 6. So Bob grams point of view- things are parallelly moving around in the world, there is a lot of hustle and bustle all around. He has captured various situations, showing different emotions subtly. In this story, in one-minute author has captured a moment in time. Each moment is taking us through
the journey of life/ different situations we go through. Every action depicted is very realistic.

1. Events that Happened:
a) pigeon has nested
b) feather had flown into the room from the window
c) Adam mailed stones and sticks
d) mother blowing the whistle
e) brother falling
f) Bernard shoe lace was getting tied
g) soldier saying good-bye to mom
h) child was making a house of leaves
i) black bird finding something to eat
j) children sailing the boat
k) baby was born in the hospital
l) children popping seaweed
m) sunlight hitting the city
n) birds flying
o) tanker moving down the lane
p) brother was back on his knees
q) phone ringing

2 & 3. The illustrations could show different events taking place at the same time, showed different perspectives, angles, moods, points of view... There was surely zooming in and zooming out taking place, moving from a house, going to nature, larger landscape... it seemed to us a complete city which is full of events, people, movements, complete life in one place... It is a busy city life... capturing different points of view of people and living beings (birds, sunlight...) at different places... Smallest of events or things taking place around us have been given a voice... there is detailing and that urges you to think about those details...

4. The words such as (the old woman carrying everything she owned), dog and hen helping each other, all the sunlight of the city, the verbs it has helps us see different moods, perspectives...

5. The girl's perspective is a miss..

6. The world is full of different realities. We probably know our world, unaware of what is happening around us... It is a text to develop perspectives...

7. The bird who was nesting will probably lay the eggs, The feather will fall on the floor in the house, two-three dogs running around and playing in the puddle (that is why he is drying himself). Different people getting ready for work, The old woman would probably been chucked out of her house...

2. The POV in the illustrations is that of the author as he leads us through the events of the one minute that elapsed as Jonathan took his first steps. Some images were close shots where the reader was made a part of the scene, while some were long shots where the reader got an aerial view of the events.
3. The use of different scales and points of view by the illustrator made us think about how our world is part of something bigger. The images expanded from inside the house to outside encompassing the whole city and beyond, and then returned back to the original setting
4. The images show a mix of happy, sad, and mundane events, while the text remains neutral in tone. The colours in the images are muted throughout while the text just names the events.
5. The characters' POV is not represented
6. Bob Graham is saying that even in what we assume is a pause, there are countless events happening in and around us, creating a sense of sonder -a realisation that every random person is living a life as rich and complex as your own.
