         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Climate Change: </strong><br>- Average temperatures fell while snow and ice accumulated therefore creating the ice to build up and form ice sheets <br>- The drier and cooler conditions saw an expansion of desert and semi desert conditions in most continental areas <br>- As the climate cooled and dried, forests became more open and grasslands more widespread<br>- Average temperatures in the 20th century rose by 0.6 degrees meaning ice sheets were more likely to be melted creating a drift <br><br><strong>Geophysical Changes: </strong><br>- Such as volcanic activity this can create more greenhouse gasses which increases the rate of climate change therefore contributing to the melting of ice sheets and glaciers. <br>- As a result land covers were able to adjust the climates of different latitudes <br>- Volcanic activity produces overflow of lava, ash and rock that can smother existing land cover in the areas immediately around eruption points <br>- Over time earthquakes can elevate or depress landmasses and help form steep slopes <br><br><strong>Plant Succession: </strong><br>- Vegetation can adapt to changing weather, climate and ground conditions <br>- Some survive and even thrive because of the presence of other plants <br>- Over time further succession occurs with new plants taking over from the secondary species <br>- Land cover changes from bare cover to vegetated cover <br><br><strong>Fires and Pests: </strong><br>- Lightning storms have led an impact of much of the earths land cover <br><br><strong>Variations in Solar Energy:<br>- </strong>Research has shown that solar energy that the Earth receives isn't constant. Higher annual Earth temperatures correlate with sun spot activity contributing to the melting of ice-sheets and glaciers.<br><br><strong>Plate Tectonics:<br>- </strong>Cause the redistribution of landmasses which leads to long term impacts on the climate. Ice-sheets and glaciers are broken/split reducing their mass<br><br><strong>Ocean Circulation Changes:<br></strong>- The change in ocean currents impacts the exchange of heat between oceans and the atmosphere increasing annual temperatures causing ice-sheets and glaciers to melt at a higher rate &nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Alteration of the composition of gases in atmosphere.<br></strong>This human is the most significant for global warming. <br><br>Industrialisation has put more green house gases (nitrous oxides, methane and dioxide) into the atmosphere. With 60% of these gases coming from cities which only cover %2 of earth.<br><br>These gases contribute to the destruction of environments and greatly change the atmospheric compositions and contributes to global warming. <br><br>Also these gases absorb the suns radiation and lead to warming.<br><br><strong>Alteration of landscapes<br></strong>This is considered to be the 2nd greatest cause for global warming.<br><br>Changes such as he clearance of forests for agriculture and the hard surfaces in cities can affect&nbsp; solar radiation (albedo) to increase. This leads to the retention of heat near earth's surface enhancing the greenhouse affect.<br><br>Urbanisation causing soil moistures to imbalance and causes heat islands to develop and the removal of flora reduces evapotranspiration and removing forests unbalances carbon dioxide. <br><br>Burning fossils for energy, heating and cool appliances, transport (cars and planes),&nbsp; all contributes.<br><br><strong>Other causes of ice sheet and glacier depletion (tourism)</strong><br><br>In Switzerland there is evidence declining glacier sizes can be linked with the increasing tourism. With more tourists wanting to get close to the slopes for snow-sports there is an encourage for ski resorts to expand or be built into different areas. The burning of coal also particulates to be deposited on the ice as soot is produced.&nbsp;<br><br>Transport to these areas such as planes and helicopters contribute to the greenhouse emissions.<br><br>Ironically, the melting of these glaciers have influenced travels to visit these areas to visit the glaciers before they disappear. Tourist are flocking to these areas and visits to the Antarctica have increased around 6% each year and more visit to Mt Kilimanjaro where 85% of it's snow has disappeared since 1912.&nbsp;<br><br><br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>People Movement:</strong><br>- Reduction in Species + Migration <br>- Struggles associated with food sources <br>- Traditional ways are having to be altered <br><br><strong>Sea Level Rise:<br></strong>- Heat absorption rate has changed <br>- Coastal Environments have an increased risk of storm surges <br>- The amount of land available is decreasing as rising sea levels occur<br><br><strong>Agricultural Output:<br></strong>- Increase in crop failures<br>- Unreliable water sources<br>- Most productive food bowls are at risk <br>- Crop Yields are declining <br><br><strong>Plant and Animal Communities:<br></strong>- Species are loosing their habitats<br>- Migration, altitude and reproduction patterns are forced to changes<br>- This impacts food chains, biodiversity and risks of extinctions increase<br><br><strong>Disease:<br></strong>- Warm temperatures increase the risk of diseases spreading<br>- This majorly impacts people in cooler climates that haven't had to experience/deal with it before <br><br><strong>Freshwater Resources:<br></strong>- Increase temperatures changes the levels of run off<br>- Water from melting glaciers ends up in the sea <br>- Loss of freshwater as majority of freshwater sources become salty <br>- People need to relocate or change their ways of living <br><br><strong>Natural Disasters:<br></strong>- Frequency of disasters have increased<br>- Ecosystems can change as flooding changes sediment deposition&nbsp;<br>- Frequent Earthquakes occur as their is a reduced amount of pressure on the tectonic plates which allows them to move more freely which can generate earthquakes&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>
