Take Notes! Its hard having to relook in the book, find what you're trying to remember in a timely manner, and then finding the main point of that text. Making notes will help you quickly recall important points. Remember to make your notes easy for YOU to read, organized, and fun to keep you engaged. Make sure you are keeping it short and simple, while adding enough information to make sure you are learning to correct material. I posted a link to some tips when note taking!

Studying for an EXAM!

Exams are more debatably more important than your typical assignments. While still using all of the things listed on our board, while studying for an exam, its important to do ALL of the steps listed on the padlet and down below.
1: One good thing to do is erase all outside distractions. YES - that means your phone. Or TV. & Even removing your dogs and boyfriend if they're anything like mine!
2: Putting yourself in an adequate, quiet space, will give you the mental clarity needed to focus on your material.
3: Another good tip is to use mnemonics. In other words, find a good way that works for you, to remember things. We LOVE to use acronyms, like ROYGBIV for the rainbow, or NEWS for our maps. We can also use sayings like "Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally" for math! Whatever works for you!
4: Give yourself time and breaks! Not only are breaks a good habit to not overwork or overwhelm yourself, but you also have a better chance at remembering things if you space your studying apart. Study something every few hours, then move to days. After a couple days of not working on it, see what you struggle to remember and then focus on that, while still touching base with the other things you learned easier.

Anxiety: Exam time.

The sick feeling in your stomach? Normal.
The fear of failure? Normal.
The laying in bed, crying, and refusing to test? Normal but not healthy.
The best way to relieve some of this is to be prepared! The more preparation you have, the more confident you will feel which will help you in relieving the stress factor. Even the most successful of people still have anxiety when it comes to taking important tests but there are ways to help!
With preparation, that includes the tips on this padlet. Knowing what it takes to get the job done, and giving yourself enough time to actually study for the test. Remember that life still goes on, so this is not telling you to forget to feed your dogs just to focus on the preparation for an exam, but it does mean make and set a schedule that works for your crazy life, in order to get ALL tasks in your daily life done.
Another tip is to set realistic goals for yourself. Even with studying and trying as hard as you can, don't come out of it thinking you wont get a simple question wrong. Mistakes happen and they are okay. Its proof you are trying. Have a growth mindset, and remember that if you have never taken a college course before, you probably wont ace every single test first try. You are human and it is okay. The goal is to learn, not be perfect. That will in turn reduce anxiety because of the fact that failure wont be so scary.
Lastly - BREATH! Close your eyes. Take a breath & relax. One quiz is one quiz. You will get better over time. Have confidence in yourself and the preparation schedule you had set. If you don't pass, readjust that schedule or learning style. It is not the end of the world. Believe in yourself!

Problem Solving

1: Find the problem!
Is it actually a problem? You don't want to overwhelm on things that really don't matter. However, if its serious, move to #2.
2: Find other options.
Generate alternative solutions, brainstorm different routes! Come up with many options.
3: Pick one and try! You're human. You may not get it right the second or even third try. But the point of life, is figuring out what works and what doesn't. Learning to adapt is important in life and college.
4: Look back.
What growths have you made, what habits have made things easier, which things made it harder or stressful on you? Looking back at the end of the year as a whole, will set you up for even more success on your next year!
