They consisted of two pieces of tin-plated iron soldered together. It had a spout and cork, with cloth around it to keep the water cool. (Evidence)In the battle of Fort Donelson, the Union came out with the Win, and it wasn't all too close. The union beat them by a lot, and was a major confidence boost for the Union and soldiers.
(Reasoning)This letter being sent to Simon Bolivar was a huge matter, because it informed everyone that the Union had won their first battle, in a staggering victory. This gave the Union a huge edge, because it forced the Confederacy to give up Southern Kentucky and a lot of the middle and west of Tennessee. Tennessee became vital supply lines for the Union, and Nashville became a huge supply depot for the army in the west.
