I am choosing the word secret because Mibs is about to receive her savvy or magical ability.She is different and chooses to stay away from other children other than her siblings.She is unsure of how her savvy will make her look to her classmates. Turning thirteen is very difficult for this character and she is having a problem with accepting changes.
     Mibs' father is in a bad accident and her birthday celebration is delayed. I chose the word disappointment because Mibs' savvy is not waking things up, but instead hearing what people think when they have ink on their skin. She begins to accept her savvy and transition to becoming a teenager. Mibs shows bravery and determination while trying to communicate with her father. I believe that this book would fit into a type like an adventure. Mibs and her siblings go on an adventure by finding a way to get to the hospital where their father is in a coma. They told lies to grown-ups, hitched a ride on a bus to reach him, and caused a lot of fear for people who cared for them. The action takes place in an isolated area between Nebraska and Kansas off Highway 81. The author does a good job of describing Mibs, her family, and the other characters because she provides details about locations, people's feelings, and specific actions. The author made me feel like I was part of the book because she uses several quotes to describe actions between Mibs and the other characters and overall, I felt like I could see everything that was happening. 
      I believe that the main characters are believable and that the author does an adequate job of describing them. Mibs and her family are very secretive and it shows by them keeping to themselves. This includes Mibs not wanting her teacher to give her a birthday party because she feels different and she worries about her savvy or powers. My new neighbors seem to be private like Mibs and her family because they do not talk to us and the children only come out to play in the evening. I believe that the Harry Potter books are like the book Savvy because Harry must also learn how to deal with his powers and being different from the people in the town where he is raised by his step parents. In my opinion, the most interesting part of the book is when Mibs discovers that her savvy is not waking things up, but reading the minds of people through their tattoos. I would recommend this book to another student because it teaches a lesson about growing up and learning how being different can be a good thing. I give the book a thumbs up because Mibs was able to use her savvy to save her father and also be proud of who she was and what she was able to accomplish.
