Dear diary,

Throughout the years, the word “perseverance” has been frequently mentioned all around me. What is perseverance again..? The word “perseverance” to me means the patience, determination and effort that you put into something. For example, imagine Bob has to write an essay to submit to the teacher. Bob didn’t know how to structure his writing and was scared to make mistakes. What will he do? Even though his hands might be stiff after writing for hours, he wouldn’t give up effortlessly just like that. He might ask for advice from his classmates and work step by step to finish his essay. He continues to write with all his vocabulary and give the best of himself into the work. This is what I call perseverance.

Before I tell you about the lesson I have learned by persevering, I will tell you a story of my own. Once in Math, I finished a worksheet about Algebra, however, I had a hard time figuring out the answers but eventually submitted my work. Sadly, most of it was incorrect and I felt ashamed of myself. It was really embarrassing and demotivating. After a while of thinking of what I should do, I decided to sacrifice my precious time with my family to revisit and work on my mistakes. I studied until I fully understand the math problems and can do other similar questions without getting any wrong. In my next Math class, the teacher set another Algebra worksheet and to be honest it was quite easy for me. I literally did it in 25 minutes rather than spending the whole lesson working on it and I got all the answers correct. The feeling of pride and achievement was great! The hard work has really paid off! From that moment, I truly think that perseverance is one of many qualities that help people. Even though, you might feel upset because you didn’t get it right the first time. It doesn’t mean you should give up. I know the path might not be simple but the results are going to be worth it.

Right now, I am currently in school learning, but in the future, I want to go to a good university in Australia. I know that the journey to go to university will be full of extreme exams and difficult subjects but making mistakes is not the end of the world. It is actually the way that we improve and get better. There is a famous saying “practice makes perfect” and I totally agree with it. I probably WILL fail exams in the future and I know that’s hard to accept the reality. When you fail a test, it doesn’t mean you are stupid it just means you need to spend more time revising, studying and seek for advice. Additionally, every career will always have a rough start. If you give up right away, you won't be successful. Personally, I think believing in yourself also matters. It makes us know that we could do it without others letting us down. No matter what occupation I choose in the future, I know that I always have to persevere.

In conclusion, I think that perseverance is a quality that everyone needs. It will help us be more patient with our results, not give up easily and put effort into our work. In my opinion, it has helped me through tough times in my life and I am really glad that I made the right decisions of persevering and doing the right things. Anyways… I got to go. See you soon, diary!

One day, she suddenly felt unwell and itchy so she tried everything, scrubbing, scratching, taking a bath and brushing her hair. Nothing worked. Then, her mom suggested her to clean her room. The thought of cleaning her room made the author uneasy and sulky. She then found an old friendship bracelet from her childhood best friend as she looked at the green and purple pattern. The next day, she decided to call her friend and check up on her. The conversation was filled up with old memories when they used to be very close. After talking, she found a photo of her old self. She looked different.

Excitement pervaded across my body as I entered the roller coaster, with my younger brother next to me as my parents sat in front of us. I calmly sat down next to him, trying not to show my indescribable fear and anxiety. As more people started to join the ride, I buckled up my seatbelt safely as crackly silver metals intertwined, firmly gripping onto my waist. Voices from people around us slowly muttered into my ear, ringing like a never-ending echo. “Enjoy your ride”, the worker exclaimed while his voice blasting through the speakers. In a split second, I vanished in thin air, being gushed inside a monstrous black hole. My heart sank deeply while the speed of the roller coaster increased rapidly. Bumping up and down as my organs twisted into a tight knot. Annoyingly, my view got obstructed by a strand of hair as I harshly pushed it out of my face. Before I could notice, we dropped down from a high place as I screamed defeaningly. Yells, shrieks, and squeals from people were fully occupying my ears. I turned to my brother quickly, seeing him closing his eyes shut while screaming at the top of his lungs. Right after that, I realised the ride has finished as I sighed. A sensation of relief conquered up my body as I went to my parents, followed by my brother.

Lucy’s heart was pounding rapidly as she rolled around the bed. “What does it feel like to go to school? What will it look like? How will teachers and classmates treat me?” Lucy thought as all the questions were mercilessly invading her mind. After staying like that for a while, Lucy started to bite her nails while cracking her knuckles. Lucy was completely lost in her thoughts until she realised someone was lightly tapping her on the shoulders. It was her mother reminding her daughter to be well-rested. As a response, Lucy nodded and leisurely drifted to sleep while listening to the soothing sound of the leaves rattling on the road.

The next morning Lucy was woken up by a source of scorching sunlight, menacingly hitting her eye. She jumped right up and started to get ready, combing her red silky hair tenderly, brushing her teeth and trying on her new uniform. After that, she picked up her little pink backpack and went downstairs, getting ready to go to school. Lucy opened the door, heading out to the car with her father since he was going to drop her off at school. The car ride was awkwardly silent yet peaceful, no one dared to utter a word out loud.

Once they arrived, Lucy’s dad got out of the car and led Lucy to the front gates of the school. As Lucy saw the school building, she gasped out loud. She had never seen anything as enormous and colourful as this. As Lucy stared in astonishment, her dad handed her the backpack, getting her ready to enter the school gates. Lucy’s vision started to become vague and blurry as salty liquid started to escape freely from her eyes. Her eyes were red and puffy as she quickly jumped into her father’s embrace, hugging him tightly. “Everything will be okay…” her dad comforted her as he held Lucy’s hand. Then, he guided Lucy into a classroom full of cheerful classmates and a teacher, welcoming Lucy inside the class. Lucy’s watery eyes sparkled, establishing a sense of never-ending light brightly shining that will never be obstructed and departed.

Every morning, I drag myself out of bed and put on the same dull uniform: a white velvety collared t-shirt, a beige skirt, black striped socks, and glossy leather shoes. Then I get to school and was greeted by thousands of students who are dressed exactly like me. The exact replica of myself was plastered all over the school corridor. Even though uniforms connect people together, they inhibit individuality.

I constantly stared aimlessly along the corridors, observing everyone's actions and how they all appeared to be the same. I groaned, both irritated and envious, at the prospect of my brother going to school in his own clothing when I couldn't. Why are students unable to express themselves? I feel that wearing a school uniform restricts students' capacity to show themselves, their identity, and their freedom. “Don’t these schools do enough damage making all these kids think alike, now they have to make them look alike too?” stated George Carlin.

Nevertheless, the uniform is inconvenient for me. I do not like wearing it since the fabric is harsh and rough, and it gives me an unpleasant sensation. When I twist or stretch, the material of my clothes clings to my body annoyingly. Although the school requires us to wear clothing that they gave us, this causes discomfort to every one of us.

Because of issues with the school and attire, I've seen a lot of bullying outside of school. Students are being targeted because of their school's insignia being shown on their uniforms, causing them to be harshly insulted. Despite the fact that this hasn't occurred to me, I've seen many people who have been tormented because of their riches and their inability to finance a good education. This has to come to an end.

Students are not here to be manipulated or cloned everywhere; they are here to learn. Schools and universities must take into account a child's overall well-being, outside-of-school status, and how they feel about the clothes they wear on a daily basis. This is why I believe that schools should no longer require pupils to wear uniforms.
