Asthma and allergies often occur together as they have very similar symptoms and causes. The disease is inherited from one's parents, through the "hay fever" gene that normally takes effect on offspring if inherited from the mother rather than the father. Symptoms emerge from triggers such as pollen, dust, and pet dander. Unfortunately for some, food or skin allergies can directly cause asthma symptoms.

The Jak/Stat Signaling Pathway is a critical component of many cytokine receptor systems. It's a chain of interactions between proteins in a cell, and is involved in processes such as immunity, cell division, cell death and tumor formation. They regulate growth, survival, differentiation, and pathogen resistance. It also mediates signaling by interferons, which are used as antiviral and antiproliferative agents.

The immune system’s protective white blood cells create antibodies that attach both to the foreign substance and to other bodily cells in a way that signals them to release inflammatory chemicals like histamine and serotonin, part of its defense strategy against infections. That makes the muscles of internal organs constrict, resulting in smaller airways.

Within these immune cells, cAMP regulates pro- and anti- inflammatory mediators, however the PDE4 messenger degrades cAMP. This means that one will then experience the effects of allergies/asthma such as puffy eyes.
