Abd er Rahman got his cavalry to repeatedly charge. This time the faith the Muslims had in their cavalry, armed with their long lances and swords which had brought them victory in previous battles, was not justified. The battle went for a couple more hours, and many lives were lost, it was close. But in the end the Franks were able to crash through the defensive triangle and the Franks surrounded Abd er Rahman and killed him savagely, which then the Muslims retreated.

Abd-ar-Rahman, the Muslim governor of Cordoba, was killed in the fighting, and the Moors retreated from Gaul, never to return in such force.

The impact of the battle of tours has changed the course of modern day France.the battle was fought in which is now know as western France. Due to the battle it preserved Christianity as the controlling faith in Europe, during a period in which Islam was overrunning the remains of the old Roman and Persian Empires.
