My name is Sonali Solanki. I am a sophomore at Stan State pursuing a degree in Nursing. Pursuing my career in nursing will allow me to help individuals out and make a difference which is what I love to do. I have many hobbies such as doing henna. Henna is a temporary tattoo that lasts around a week or two, and the wallpaper you see are some of the designs I can create. I enjoy doing henna tattoos as well as other exciting activities such as hiking, zip line, going to the lake, and much more. I am the type of person who prefers to do tasks on time and without procrastination. I am a really down to earth person and love meeting new people! :)

When I think about sustainability, I envision it as a way to improve our quality of life. I care about sustainability because I want to see our environment preserved. In my daily life, I pursue sustainability through reusing plastic bottles rather than tossing them away, going paperless, growing plants such as produce, and conserving electricity as much as possible.

When I think of information literacy, I think of creating new knowledge from the information we retain on a daily basis, such as at work where I learn new things, on social media, and etc.

The three principles linked with sustainability are something I'd like to learn more about. Many people, particularly college students, are unable to eat healthy due to the food available in dining halls or in dorms on campus, which must be addressed. We must enhance nutrition and achieve food security on college campuses particularly Stanislaus State and in general to put an end to this issue. This topic falls under the pillar of environmental sustainability.

This topic has evolved over time as more people see the need of preserving the environment, yet some still do not. When it comes to food sustainability on college campuses, some actions that may be taken include providing healthful foods, offering meat-free days and to take out all the junk food like fries, milkshakes, burgers, and etc. Some on-campus college students in California struggle to eat sustainably because they would rather eat McDonald's all day than cook. Cooking can be difficult on some days due to the amount of work required, but this should not discourage college students from eating healthy foods. 

Following a Mediterranean diet, which consists of eating a diet low in meat, rich in fruits and vegetables, low in added sugars and salt, and low in fatty acids, is one method students can maintain a sustainable lifestyle while in college. The Japanese diet, which is strong in carbs and low in fat, is another diet covered in the reading that encourages food sustainability. These are excellent ways for Stanislaus State to provide food for their students in a healthier and more environmentally friendly manner. 

In order to maintain the environment and expand Earth's natural resources, it is critical to get rid of all the junk food they provide and conduct food sustainability for college students on Stan State's campus. My research on this topic is essential to me because, when it comes to food, I have never given much concern to environmental protection. If I lived on campus, though, I would most likely be one of those students that ate out rather than cooking healthy meals. Even if I do not live on campus, I still eat meat on a regular basis. However, as a person, I will change my eating habits and consume more nutritious vegetables and fruits while consuming less meat. I'm interested in learning more about how college campuses and students living on campus may contribute to a more sustainable environment by providing nutritional dining hall options. The author's purpose is to prove how the Black Lives Matter movement has decreased since George Floyd's killing by Derek Chauvin, compared to when it originally began. Fewer Americans support the Black Lives Matter movement, leading to a negative outlook on race relations in the future. The rhetorical device logos is used in this article. When Ghosh provides polls on the percentage of people who support the Black Lives Matter movement, race relations, and police violence now versus when he died, he appeals to logic. "Just under half of American respondents, 48 percent, now have favorable views of the Black Lives Matter movement, down from 61 percent in May," Ghosh reports. In the article he also talks about how "46% of U.S. adults think race relations have worsened over the past five years, and only 30% expect them to improve in the next five years." This demonstrates how the author is using several polls to demonstrate how Americans do not support racial justice, such as how blacks do, which should improve, and how just 30% expect them to improve in the next five years is not acceptable. Because he presented actual facts about where America stands with the movement and how some people may not think police violence is a major concern, the usage of logos was effective. 

Author Palash Ghosh uses an information literacy framework to raise awareness of racial injustice and how many people, particularly Americans and Republicans, oppose BLM. I believe that this article is part of a continuing conversation about how Americans, particularly Whites and Republicans, can change this and support the movement differently than they did when George Floyd died last year. This article starts a discussion about why 30% of Americans believe racial relations will worsen in the next five years instead of improving to build a more positive world. What my audience knows about this topic: My audience is aware that students on college campuses are unable to eat sustainably due to the food available to them and how they choose to eat. Students are so focused on getting their degree that they have neglected to eat healthily and more sustainably.

What questions I have: Will the Stanislaus State food pantry remain open next year once the virus has subsided? Would you eat food on campus which is nutritious and sustainable?

After conducting research on my antithesis, I realized that students eating nutritious food options on campus can be expensive, making them unaffordable for college students.
The counter narrative: My counterargument is that college campuses should establish programs or food pantries that give healthy foods in order to address the issue of the high cost of nutritious foods. This strategy would address the issue of food insecurity among students on campus.
How this counter-narrative can help solve the problem you are writing about: My counter-narrative can help solve the problem I'm writing about by having students pay less or not at all to tackle this issue, as students already have so many expenses to pay such as tuition, rent, books, and so on. Karen Zandarski, an English professor at California State University Stanislaus, died suddenly on Thursday, October 2, 2017 at 1:55 p.m. in Modesto, California after being electrocuted near her laptop. She was a 34 year old women who was born on September 18, 1983 in Turlock, California to Steven and Rachel Zandarski. Karen earned her associates degree degree in English from Modesto Junior College and her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from CSU Stanislaus. Karen was a very wonderful and caring human being who cherished her students, her teaching career, and her family. Her key personality trait was her sweetness and bubbliness. She had four lovely children and a variety of interests, including photography, reading, knitting, exercising, and socializing with friends in her leisure time. Karen's generosity and enthusiasm for life touched the hearts of many people.

A funeral ceremony is scheduled for 1:00pm on October 4, 2017 at Turlock Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Officiating will be Samatha Robertson. Everyone is welcome to attend the celebration of Karen Zandarski's life.
