<title>A teacher can have the best lesson plan, know the most material and be very prepared and could still not be the best teacher. A teacher need to make connections and make the students engaged through various teaching styles. Teachers need to make every student feel involved and not afraid to ask questions. This teacher didn’t care about his students being engaged and had difficulty getting them to respond to his questions. The teacher’s lesson plans were very detailed, but lacked student involvement and would bore the students. Just because a teacher looks good on paper, does not mean that the teacher is a great teacher. A great teachers cares and involves all his/her students. I chose this image because anybody can be a good teacher if you know the material, but a great teacher inspired his/her students and encourages learning. </title>

<title>This “advice” from the quote implies that teachers should start their school year as strict and uninviting. It also implies that teachers should uphold tight control over the classroom. The teacher will not connect with students and by the time the teacher “smiles in November,” the student will not want anything to do with the teacher because of how reserved they acted. No smiling means all business and all business means respectful students who will not come to you even if they need the help. Though it is the teacher’s responsibility to maintain control of their classroom, a smile on the first day can say more than words and can invite students in and make them feel welcome. The teachers who gave this “advice” act as if they fear the students just because of the way they look. As a teacher, you cannot judge a student and you must teach every student the same. I chose this image because students will not learn from people that &quot;Don&#39;t smile until November,&quot; and they don&#39;t feel invited to learn. </title>

<title>When I read this, I was astonished by the comment the other teacher made. How can you refuse your students a chance to learn? Then, when the students fail their standardized exam, the teacher will blame the students for not paying enough attention when the lesson could have been taught in a hands-on way. The teacher let her perception of her students interfere with the way she taught them. Their teacher’s assumptions had robbed the students a way of learning. The teacher was very bias and stereotyped her students based on the way they looked and the place they lived. I chose this image for this quote because many students preferred &quot;weapons&quot; are school materials and they actually use it to learn and not as actual weapons. </title>

<title>Measuring a teacher’s effectiveness goes past test scores and graduation rates. Standardized tests are not a good measure of effectiveness and teachers teach students much more than how to pass a test. Teachers teach student to think and reason, to implant good study behaviors, to help students learn to work together with each other and to keep students safe. Of course, students test scores tell us something, but not in the slightest everything. We need to combine data from examinations with other measures, such as classroom observations and involvement with administrators and peers. Looking at many aspects of a teacher’s contribution gives us the best chance to understand it fully. </title>

<title>I can’t help but think that the student (author) was embarrassed of the experience he went through and the place he lived. Even though the student feared the loud bang, he played it off as being a class clown. It is sad that students go through experiences like this and have no one to talk to about it. The students should be connected enough with the teacher to speak to them about this and get advice. A teacher should be a mentor with the student. The teacher could never understand what the student was feeling unless they talked through it. I chose this image of Robin Williams and a quote because that is how I felt the student was acting. He was scared, but wanted to make everyone laugh because he did not want them to go through what he was going through. </title>

<title>I really loved this quote because jobs in the classroom make the students feel special and make them responsible. I chose this video because I loved how she had a job for every student and how it would change. My favorite part about this video was when she gave real names to the job such as electrician and meteorologist. I thought that was a very neat aspect that I can add to my classroom one day. The kids in this video have a school family and they take pride and responsibilities in these jobs. </title>

<title>This is a video about Barry White, Jr. who is a a fifth grade English teacher at Ashley Park PreK-8 School in Charlotte, North Carolina. I have seen this video before because it quickly became viral and I love it. This teacher has a personalized handshake for all of his students which is just impressive to even memorize every single one. I think its neat that the handshake is personalized and inspired by the students personality. You can see in the video how happy the students are when they are doing their handshake. This starts them off for a good day and a positive attitude. </title>

<title>(The part I like starts at 1:20) I liked this quote because it gives an opportunity for students to teach the class and the students love it too. This video shows a girl teaching her class the rules. Of course, the students already know the rules, but I think it is important to note that the child seemed to feel comfortable in the teacher chair and teaching her peers. This makes the classroom exciting and engaging. At the same time as learning the material, the students teaching will learn research skills, public speaking skills and planning skills. The students will understand that teachers have to work hard to plan a lesson and carry it out in a way that the students will comprehend it. </title>

<title>First off, Ron Clark is brilliant and an outstanding educator. This video explains Ron Clark&#39;s mission to educate teachers. It doesn&#39;t matter if you have been in the field for 30 years, what matters is how you teach and how you engage your students. He explains that when teachers come to his school they see color and energy and students want to learn and that&#39;s because of the environment the teachers are creating. The expectations are really high and Ron Clark Academy incorporates a lot of music, art and hands on activities. </title>

<title>Freedom Writers is an amazing. This clip of the movie is about the young man evaluating himself with an F and the teacher is confused. She asks him why he gave himself an F and he thought that was what he deserved. She tells him that we are all up against something and that she is not letting him fail. This teacher recognized this student for the abilities he didn&#39;t even think he had. After this scene, he started doing better and being more confident. He started being the person who the teacher expected him to be and not what he though he was. The teacher is so uplifting in this movie. </title>

<title>I remember in high school when we use to play and I loved it because it gave me a chance to interact with the students while reviewing the content. I chose this picture because it shows a jeopardy board. I never understood why we only played jeopardy before test though. I think the game could encourage the students to learn for themselves and not only memorize for a standardized test. </title>

<title>I chose this video because it shows the teacher and student rapping against each other and the teacher owns the student. I like incorporating music in the classroom because it makes learning fun and engaging. Everyone loves music and everyone can be involved. They can write the rap beforehand or freestyle. It also shows the artistic side of the students. </title>

<title>This quote is about a teacher who wears different shoes to connect with her students. At first, she did not want to do it because she thought the students were making fun of her and new shoes would not change anything. It did though and students who she didn&#39;t recognize spoke to her. I chose this picture because it shows teachers and students twining it up. </title>

<title>I really liked this part of the books for ways to discuss code switching in the classroom, and ways to implement using social media for learning, even in schools that might block social media access. Emdin recommends constructive use of social media in the classroom that would allow students to “curate” their experiences and provide windows into their worlds. Together these elements work to recognize realities of students’ lives and cultural practices in order to decolonize schooling and restore the joy of learning for youth. I chose this video because it shows the students answering discussion questions via twitter. </title>

<title>I chose this video comparing a good and bad teacher because it really does make a difference in how your students see you. This quote means that the kind of teacher you become is directly related with the teachers you associate with. Do not let other teachers bring down your mood and do not surround yourself with unhappy teachers because it will give you a bad taste of education. </title>

<title>I love this picture because it says there is more to being a teacher than teaching. You have to believe in everyone of your students. Believing in your students is not simply telling them that you believe in them. These words matter only if they are true and if you demonstrate them by your actions. There is no way to fake it, because kids can tell if you do not mean it. The best gift to a child is to believe in them because it can go a long way. </title>

<title>I am all about technology in the classroom because it is taking over the world and it is a vital tool for success in these days. The students were damaging the laptops because they were disengaged and they saw the math game as busy work. The author assigned a new assignment for the students to surf the web and look for information about the topic they were discussing. A couple of students even found a proxy to give them access to websites they could not access before. The students were engaged with finding information on the laptops. </title>

<title>Being firm and yelling are two separate things. Many teachers believe yelling changes behavior, but behavior only changes when students want to behave better. Students are more influenced by what you do than by what you say. When you yell, react emotionally to misbehavior, or otherwise lose your composure, you provide a poor model for your students for how to behave when things don’t go their way. The author got frustrated when the students told him that he yells too much, but when he reflected he realized he did. He did not listen to the students which made the students think that he did not believe them. Listen to your students for suggestions. </title>
