The European explorers traded pelts, clothing, food, metal goods, and lots of other essential needs (it was also very fun trading items and pelts at Jack Smythe!). They needed all these things to be able to live in the cold weather in Canada. Also, another thing I learned was that the taller the hat, the wealthier you are. This means people would trade with you because you are "rich" and have all the goods.
