Part where we left off: Fear of Death

The song "Fear of Death" by Tim Heidecker is perfect for the part where we left off because it talks about his fear of death. This song relates because he talks about both how the fear of death keeps him alive, and talks about how he now just wants to stay in his pocket. When Roderick is always in his house the song talks about how they don't want to leave their home. Roderick says in the end that he doesn't want to die and that is why he is afraid

The the beginning of the song The narrators talks about the windows. The author writes, "I looked upon the scene before me--upon the mere house, and the simple landscape features of the domain--upon the bleak walls--upon the vacant eye-like windows--upon a few rank sedges--and upon a few white trunks of decayed trees--with an utter depression of soul which I can compare to no earthly sensation more properly than to the after-dream of the reveller upon opium --the bitter lapse into everyday life--the hideous dropping off of the veil." (Poe 1) When it says "vacant eyelike windows" it makes you think about how if a person's eyes are vacant they are souless so is the author trying to show that the people living there don't make the house a home they make it a place to live.

In the Story "The Fall of the House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe. There is a poem called, " The Haunted Palace". In this the author writes, "Through two luminous windows saw; Spirit moving musically." This shows personification when it says "two luminous windows saw" This makes the reader think that the house has eyes, because eyes are the like window to the soul. At this point his soul is happy because of the "Spirits moving musically" this means the spirits are dancing and that make the mood happier. Then later in the poem it says, "Through the red-litten windows, see; Vast forms that move frantically; To a discordant melody;" This show how the mood shifts and the windows now show a darker and chaotic mood. Making the shift to where the mood goes form happy and carefree to fearful and chaotic.

The reason Poe added the poem is because it is harder to show the effect of a poem without the poem than it is to show a piece of art. The author writes " The words of these rhapsodies I have easily remembered." This shows how if the poem was not there all we would know is it was "easily remembered" this could mean that it was bad so without the poem we would just infer that the poem is boring. The poem helps the story to show what the poems were about.

After Madeline's death, the narrator and Roderick carry the Badr to the vault. The author writes "The body having been incoffened, we two alone bore it to its rest. The vault in which we took it..." (Poe 28) This vault is in the basement, and the body is "incoffened" This setting makes it feel as if the person is yet to be dead. Many times in horror movies everyone knows not to go in the basement, yet this is what happens every time. Yet with this, they still place the body in a coffin in the vault. The basement vault makes a sense of suspense because many deadly things happen in the basement so it makes you wonder what will happen.

After the narrator and Roderick put the body in the basement we see how Roderick starts to get nervous and starts to pace, because of the secret. The author writes, "There were times, indeed, when I thought unceasingly agitated and mind and was laboring with some oppressive secret, to divulge which he struggled for the necessary courage. "(Poe 30) The language really helps to express how Roderick wants to "divulge" his secret. After saying that he wants to divulge his secret it makes the reader wonder in suspense what is his secret.

At one point in the house of the usher Roderick and the narrator think that Madeline died and then they buried her. The author writes "..., the mockery of a blush upon the bosom and face..."(Poe 29) This show is suspenseful because blush is shown when there is blood flow. This shows how Madeline is in distress because she was buried alive and we wonder what will happen.

In the story "The Fall of The House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe, the author depicts the theme of having mental health problems. One of the many ways the author depicts this is by showing that Roderick is reading a book and it shows what is happening in real life this shows like how the mind plays tricks and can give hallucinations and this is what is happening to Roderick because he know that his sister is coming. Also, the narrator explains that he thinks Roderick has mental health problems because he was saying that he knew that he buried his sister alive. So that is why the story depicts a theme of having mental health problems.

The theme in the story "The Fall of The House of Usher" by Edgar Allan Poe, shows having mental health problems. One detail to show this is the fact that because Roderick was saying that he knew that he buried his sister alive this shows how he knew that he was killing her and was fine yet terrified. This is most likely a case of insanity which means mental health problems so the theme is mental health problems.
