Violence in the book was when Papa was constantly abusing the family to where the family couldn't do anything to defend themselves. At first they were afraid of what Papa might do if he ever found out what the family did, but the family was brave enough to take the risk to end this catastrophe. "Imagine what the standard would be if we were all quiet" was said on page 58 of the book.
