With Churchill Junior High and Oakridge Elementary nearby, children in the neighborhood have safe and easy access to education. Most have the luxury of walking in a relatively safe environment through residential areas each morning a local resident explained to me who lives across the street from Churchill Jr. High.

This public capital allows children and family to learn and grow in their community. It strengthens the bonds of families whose children all attend the school and live nearby creating more opportunity for community collaboration as well. The school building offers a place to debate and improve school systems and recreational possibilities. After school programs and sporting teams offer community resources for gathering.

Coming across this bowling alley even in the late afternoon it was clear this community asset was accessible and widely used by the surrounding community. I spoke to an employee about the amount of traffic the bowling alley had. The bowling alley is an old family business that has been open for at least 20 years. They said that each night there were different family and youth groups. Along with the professional sportsmen who gather one night a week to compete. At less than $8 for an adult bowl and shoes and less than $5 for a child it is accessible and fun for the whole community.

this serves as a community asset bringing social communities of all economic and race backgrounds together in the community. this remains one of the most utilized community engagement centers in use.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, South Fortuna Way, Salt Lake City, UT

This one of four LDS church buildings I encountered. When talking to parties leaving the church I realized all kinds of people were in the building for different reasons.

One group said they had organized a youth event for service they were leaving. Others were gathering for recreational sports and in fact were not church members. I cam e to understand this was public capital when one group left having a meeting about how to help the youth population of the neighborhood. It also serves as a cultural center for events, weddings, and youth activities. With sports courts and kitchen there is rarely a time an event cannot be held in one of these buildings.

On thing I noticed particularly is the safe haven these buildings are for youth to assemble with more limited or no supervision. This community connects and grows together in these settings.

Olympus Hills Park

Once again I found an accessible family friendly and cost friendly entertainment. I noticed a diverse collection of families and the lighted tennis courts shown. All these resources provide a leisure space in nature free of charge to ass residents. Park is clean and well cared for.

There is room to run, a playground, lit tennis courts, and plenty of space to exist in the trees. Everyone at the park seemed happy, carefree and connected. All ages can be entertained here and culturally is seems central to community wellness.

Close to the bowling alley and residential areas, this grocery store services most in the community. SNAP benefits are accepted and loyalty programs offer lower prices for local residents.

This community food resources houses most families and community nearby with foot traffic in and out of all kinds of people in the hour I was there. All the cars in the parking lot had a Utah license plate which led me to believe it was mostly a community resource.
