         <description><![CDATA[<div>Although gang violence plays the antagonist in most communities, gangs also provides a sort of comfort for some. In this particular story, the brothers' turned to gangs as one of their support systems. The gang they were involved with was their makeshift family when their parents weren't, so despite the violence that came with it, it also brought security. Additionally, the gang was also a source of profit for Pete (the older brother), although not the most legal. - Doris</div>]]></description>

I think when people have enough money they are able to pull themselves out of most situations but when you are born into poverty odds are stacked against you like we see in the book. When you are born in poverty you often have to build everything up from the bottom.</div>]]></description>

In this context, people are being judges for their skin tone and race. It is harder for a first nations to get a job because they aren't looked at as equally good to a whiter person. This makes a trail of failure in the aboriginal community.</div>]]></description>

Because aboriginal people have such a high poverty rate and are all grouped together all the problems we faced are amplified on the reservation. Violence is usually born from parental issues most likely involving alcoholism which is born out of poverty. Unfortunatly this cycle is caused by residential schools </div>]]></description>
