For my playlist, I chose the "woke" mood. I chose this because of the recent events in the U.S. My playlist has a reoccurring theme of oppression in the point of view of the oppressed. People choose music that fits a mood by the tempo and usually the lyrics. The two songs I chose were "Formation (Clean)" by Beyonce and "Take me to Church" by Hoizer. Both of those pieces have a different feel, with Formation making a strong statement standing boldly against the acts of racism against the black community. On the other hand, Take me to Church is the "heart dropping to gut" feeling about the persecution of the LGBT community due to violent religious beliefs. Hoizer's piece makes several references to the Bible and Christian practice, the oppressors of this story. Beyonce's song has the most symbolism in her music video, such as the sinking New Orleans police car (symbolising the story of Messy Mya), the young black girls rocking their natural afros and prominently black features (“I like my baby hair, with baby hair and afros. I like my negro nose with Jackson Five nostrils”), and a look at bounce music, an emergence of rap in the gay black community.

I'd like to compose a piece for guitar. Usually, I just go on logic and put loops in there and hope for the best. This time, I am hoping I can venture into latin music. Latin music is very nostalgic for me since I've been hearing it at birthdays and reunions since my childhood. For the most part, I listen to vaporwave and experimental music like chill step, so until now, all of my music has had that feel.

I'm playing "Go the Distance" from the movie Hercules. I wanted to pick something drastically different from the first piece I learned, which was "Gymnopedie no. 1" by Erik Satie. I like the fact I can practice singing and playing at the same time. The piece is like a ballad and I can really slow down and make the piece my own when I perform it.

Individuals pick music to listen to based on their current emotions or what is pleasing to the ear for their specific taste. It took me a lot of patience to find socially concious songs that fit the mood of the current events of the United States. I chose "Glory" by John Legend ft. Common, "Welcome to America" by Lecrae, and "Same Love" by Macklemore. All of the songs have different genres but they all have the same ideas. In all three songs, rap/spoken word is used to create the mood of the piece. The words are spit out in rhythms to get stuck in people's heads and the rhymes are meant to touch your heart.

I've heard a lot of latin music being played live, whether it be by my relatives at a get together casually, or at a performing event. From my knowledge and my roots in latin culture, I want to pull the reoccurring dancing beat in latin music to create my piece. My creative decisions in terms of creating computerized music usually starts with a loop that has a good beat. I hope from this steady and solid foundation I can compose a guitar solo piece that will embody the music of my childhood.

Listening to difference people perform this song vocally, you get a feel of what emotions should be conveyed. It's clear that this piece should be played with a voice in mind. To improve the quality of a performer's work, all that is needed is a second opinion. The beauty of music is in the eye of the beholder and it is wise to ask what your potential audience what they'd like to hear. I'd love to start taking notes to remember what I had worked on the last time so I can improve the effectiveness of the rehearsals.

"Formation" by Beyonce-SOUND-The instruments used is made with a synth pad. There is a alien sounding bong, a beat that sounds like clapping and a drum set, and various brass instruments. The song starts simple, and layers are added slowly. The piece is mostly the same dynamic, I'd say it's mezzoforte. Between each section there's examples of bounce music. This is definitely something I've never heard and it's unique as it is. "Take Me to Church"-GROWTH-"ABAB'C" form, the melody of the sections are repeated a couple times over the course of the piece, the song starts out with piano chords and vocals, a drum set, and guitar is added to the more dramatic parts of the piece. When Hoizer sings something particularly intense, the background music drops and you can hear only the piano chords.

Again, listening to the original work in the movie "Hercules" gives the best example of how this piece should be played. To improve the quality of your performance, you must be able to practice often and efficiently. This means practicing when you have the time, and actively listening to yourself to see what you can improve on. I got very nervous and did not sing the vocals for the piece, nor did I pay attention to pacing or dynamics. I want to be able to calm my nerves next time so that I can perform this piece better.
