But the high latitude also ensures very long summer days, as the sun stays above the horizon nearly 20 hours each day, or up to 24 hours, with only around 6 hours of daylight, or none, occurring in the dark winters, depending on latitude.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Taiga is the terrestrial biome with the lowest annual average temperatures, with the mean annual generally varying 23 to 41 F.</p><p><br/></p><p>High latitudes mean that the sun does not rise far above the horizon, and less solar energy is received than further south. But the high latitude also ensures very long summer days, as the sun stays above the horizon nearly 20 hours each day, or up to 24 hours, with only around 6 hours of daylight, or none, occurring in the dark winters, depending on latitude.</p><p><br/></p><p>The taiga experiences relatively low precipitation throughout the year (generally 200–750&nbsp;mm (7.9–29.5&nbsp;in) annually, 1,000&nbsp;mm (39&nbsp;in) in some areas), primarily as rain during the summer months, but also as snow or fog. Snow may remain on the ground for as long as nine months in the northernmost extensions of the taiga biome.</p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <title>American Marten</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Martes Americana</p><p><br/></p><p>The American marten is an opportunistic predator whose diet may shift with the seasons, allowing it to capitalize on a rotating roster of food sources, from small rodents and fish to fruit, foliage, and insects.</p><p><br/></p><p>As snow covers the ground and deepens, martens turn to mostly mammalian prey, which dominate the winter diet.</p><p>As predators, American martens may have significant impact on prey populations, helping to structure the forest community. Fishers, bobcats, and a wide variety of hawks and owls will all kill martens. Some people trap them for their fur.</p><p><br/></p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Rubus Chamaemorus</p><p><br/></p><p>When ripe, cloudberry fruits are golden-yellow, soft and juicy, and are rich in vitamin C. When eaten fresh, cloudberries have a distinctive tart taste. When over-ripe, they have a creamy texture somewhat like yogurt and a sweet flavor. They are often made into jams, juices, tarts, and liqueurs.</p><p><br/></p><p>The leaves and twigs of cloudberry are browsed by moose and caribou.</p><p>Fire is very common in the ericaceous shrub-tussock tundra where cloudberry grows. Cloudberry sprouts from the rhizomes after aboveground vegetation is destroyed or damaged by fire. Cloudberry also dominates or codominates in dwarf-shrub types, bogs, muskegs, and open tussock tundra.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Hericium Erinaceus</p><p><br/></p><p>Lions Mane is known for its medicinal benefits to relieve depression and anxiety, support nerve cellular regrowth and brain development, and reduce risk of diabetes.</p><p><br/></p><p>They play an important role in the ecosystem of the forest by collecting up nutrients from the wood of dead trees. They then make these available to other organisms, who eat the mushroom.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>Several industries, including oil and gas drilling and mining, exploit the boreal but one of the biggest threats is logging. Each year, industrial logging operations clearcut approximately one million acres of intact forest, equivalent to five NHL hockey rink–size areas every minute. This logging also leaves scars across the landscape, with some forest areas failing to grow back even decades later.</p><p><br></p><p><br></p>]]></description>
