The loss of urban green spaces contributes to the urban heat and flooding which are even worse because of climate change which cannot only harm the earth but also affect and harm us. Poorly planned cities and communities contribute to climate change Canada has to figure out how to not harm the environment whilst tackling the housing shortage. 
Urban flooding due to increasingly severe storms can be reduced with greatly designed green infrastructure and green spaces which can maintain biodiversity including insects, birds and fish. These climate change mitigation  benefits are reduced when urban trees and green spaces are removed however even when new landscaping is put into place young trees and lawns do not provide the heat mitigation, flood protection and biodiversity support.
