YOUR TOPICS — what should we talk about? by Friends of Neurodiversity

Hey! This is your place to suggest topics — packaged as questions, please — for the next events. What's on your mind, and what would feel most meaningful? Tell us & your fellow neurodivergents, by double-clicking on the screen and or clicking the "plus" sign and creating a new note. Optionally, "vote" on previous submissions via the thumbs up/down function. → We will prioritize topics centering the lived experiences of those present, key issues as well as support options / strategies / inspiration relevant to neurodivergence. | Created for participants of the Friends of Neurodiversity meetup in Vienna. Let's co-create the conversation 😊 🙌

Does being neurodivergent make us more prone to trauma?

Being neurodivergent means not fitting in with expectations of the neurotypical society. This can already imply a higher expected chance of developing trauma, of all kinds.

But does it additionally mean that we have a harder time healing/getting over our traumas, because of the specific ways we process memories?

Is it easier for us to retain bad memories?

How do you process memories?

Autism and Meditation: Is it harder to meditate when you have a nervous system that is more stimulated by default?

Meditation/mindfulness practices often involve exercising the ability to focus, or to reach certain states of calm and peace.

Of course, failing over and over again to progress in these is an experienced shared by all, including neurotypical people. Though I always found myself wondering if this unjust world has made meditation/mindfulness less effective for me, simply because of the way my brain is wired, simply because it has a higher baseline of simulation, simply because my brain has a harder time to let go.

Do we get used to autistic accommodations? Like does our baseline change after wearing earplugs and the things becomes useless? Todo: phrase this better
