Both Tranio's and Cambio's names give clues as to their characters role in the play. Tranio's name has the root tran which means to change, letting the audience know that he will probably be involved in some sort of transformation. In Scene II it shows that Tranio has disguised himself as Lucentio. Cambio's name comes from the Italian word to change, referencing to the fact that Cambio is just Lucentio in disguise.
