Introduction

The geographic location for Mexico is in the Southern part of North America. The borders are North America and the South and Western part of the pacific ocean. Today, Mexican culture is made up of about 37.2 million people. It still continues to grow. 90% of Mexican culture speaks Spanish. The history of Mexicans has to do with the Aztec and Maya people who once controlled much of Central America. Much of their history comes from Spain.

Holidays and Traditions

Believe it or not, the Mexican culture celebrates many more holidays and traditions than we do. They have many unique holidays such as the “Cinco de Mayo” and their well known “Quinceanera”. We celebrate so many holidays, so just imagine how many they do! One of their most common holidays is Día de Muertos, known as the “Day of The Dead”. This holiday happens on November 1st and 2nd. This is almost always celebrated as a reunion except the ancestors from the past are the guests of honor. A Quinceanera is a day in a Mexican girl's life when she turns 15. This is when she becomes a true “woman”. They earn many privileges on this day. American Christmas is called “Las Posadas” in the Mexican culture. It is celebrated the same way we do but they do a few different activities and have some other traditions that go with the holiday. “Día de Acción de Gracias” is a tradition that Mexican culture does that is similar if not exactly the same as our “Thanksgiving” holiday. It is even celebrated on the same day. So you see, although they celebrate some of the holidays we do, they celebrate many more that we don’t.

Food and Drinks

Food and drinks are one of the most important topics in the Mexican culture. They have so many foods and lots that are even well known to Americans! “Marbled tres leches cake” is one of the most common desserts originated from the Mexican culture. It is a chocolate and vanilla swirl cake with a layer of soft buttercream. They can often be seen with a variety of fruits on top. The most common drink from mexico is called “aguas frescas”. These are often made up of fresh fruit or veggies, lime juice, water, a sweetener like sugar, and even fresh herbs like mint. They are delicious! The most popular mexican food in America are “Tacos”. Tacos are a tortilla with ground beef, veggies, cheese, and often times a variety of beans. These are at lots of restaurants all around America, along with many other Mexican foods! Now that you know a few of the foods and drinks that are from their culture, which one would you be most interested in trying?

Music and Dancing

The dancing and music is very different in the Mexican culture in so many ways. Aside from the fact that their songs are sang in Spanish, they use different instruments and have a different preference for the genre of music that is played. Some of the most common instruments used are guitars, trumpets, Vihuelas, and many more. Their songs are often slower and are usually less upbeat. One of the most popular types of dances is the “salsa”. This type of dance is where your partner is leading both you and themself to the pattern and beat of a song. This is when the music might be more upbeat. Another kind of dance would be the “Cha-Cha-Cha”. This dance is quite different from the salsa. When doing this dance, you are by yourself, not with another person like you would for most of the other dances. As you can see, there are so many ways that the Mexican cultures dancing and music is different from ours. It may be different, but it is quite interesting and unique.

Over all, the Mexican culture has a ton of crazy, fun, and unique ways to celebrate their Holidays. Their delicious food and drinks are well known all over America and other countries. Lastly, the dancing and music is so different from Americas, yet it is so fun to learn about. Now that you know about the Mexican culture, would you be interested in learning more?
