Instead of having two students discuss their one solution path, a good next step could be for the teacher to take time (at least 5 minutes) to display and discuss at least two different representations/solution paths and have students explain the thinking behind their solutions. Then allow the students time to think and discuss similarities and differences between the different methods, and explain the thinking behind these as well. This could also include some solution paths that address common misconceptions.

Next time I would love to see more student ownership and interaction. I want you to allow them to present their models in the introduction problem to their group and discuss their thought process. My suggestion is for them to pick the best "mathematically" sound answers to share with the class. But we can come up with the best way to incorporate this in your class

Evidence of concrete and representational models was present in the lesson. To fully meet the rigor of the standard and deepen conceptual understanding, incorporate manipulatives and provide students with multiple opportunities to engage with them. Modeling should be an ongoing, interactive process—progressively increasing in rigor and complexity—rather than a single demonstration, to ensure students reach the full depth of the standard.

To encourage productive struggle, after posing problems the teacher could set a timer to allow private think time before stepping in to help students solve. This would allow all students proper time to process and think through the problem.
