Hi! Absolutely! So overall, I wanted to look at how people viewed various intelligence types. I only focused on 3: Cognitive, Emotional, and Social intelligence. Participants were first faced with an intelligence. This was not a scored test, it was there purely for priming purposes. When they finished the test, they were told they scored highest in either cognitive, emotional, or social intelligence. They then read 3 narratives where each narrative described a person who scored highest in one of the 3 types of intelligence and had characteristics that fell in line with each type. For example, Person A represented cognitive intelligence and the a part of the narrative acknowledged his/her high capacity to memorize lists of words. After reading the narratives, participants answered a set of questions that rated each narrative's figure on predicted success in various situations like school or work as well as social perception (would you be friends with this person). In the end, participants predicted people of high cognitive intelligence would be most successful and people of high social intelligence were perceived most positively as in they're trustworthy or they'd make great friends. The narrative of high emotional intelligence scored lowest on both scales.

I think the most rewarding part of this experience was getting to learn more about how people view others on a less superficial level. There are a ton of studies on how people see others based on their bodies, or facial features, or how they dress but there aren't many people asking how people see other people in terms of intellect or how they mentally process the world.

We wanted them to think that they were more attuned to a specific type because, according to the second hypothesis, we predicted that relating to a certain type would influence which narrative figure they'd rate as most successful or most sociable.

Hi Dr. Moore! I definitely learned so much more about intelligence theory during the course of this experiment. We don't really go into too much detail regarding this topic in our psych classes. We address them but we never get this specific. It was really interesting to read about how there can be so many different perspectives or explanations over just 1 topic!

I found it most surprising that high rates of emotional intelligence did not pose a significant impact on either scale. I thought it would have a more significant presence in social perception ratings but it didn't. Interestingly, this could imply that people don't really value high capacities of emotional intelligence in society if the theory regarding Gardner's multiple intelligences is true which could say a lot about how society prioritizes or elevates the importance of other intelligence types.

I would definitely look into other rating scales besides predicted success and social perception. A possible major issue here is that participants related success to cognitive intelligence and social perception to social intelligence due to biases so I'd try to find or create scales more applicable to all 3 types

Thank you! And yes! It may be that people have varying levels of knowledge surrounding the different types. For instance, there are many studies looking at cognitive intelligence such as tests of spatial ability or academic performance but not as much information is known about emotional intelligence. In this experiment, it could've been the fact that participants did were not fully aware of or were not able to recognize attributes of high social or emotional intelligence so they rated examples of cognitive intelligence higher than the others.
