         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Who created the format?</strong><br>- The format was created by the a team at the BBS(Bulletin Board Service) provider <em>CompuServe. </em>The format supports 8 bits per pixel or 256 colors therefore, using the GIF format on photographs could prove rather limiting as it would only have 256 colors to work with.<em><br></em><strong>Who introduced the format?<br></strong>- Steve Wilhite debuted the GIF format in June 15 1987.<strong><br>When was it created?<br></strong>- The GIF format was created in Jun 15 1987.<strong><br>What controversy surrounds the format?<br>- </strong>In December 1994, CompuServe and Unisys Corporation announce that developers were to pay license fee to be able to continue using the technology.<strong><br>Which patent is involved?<br>- </strong>The LZW(Lempel-Ziv-Welch) compression patent was involved. LZW patent is a patent which covers methods of lossless compression and decompression of digital data. It is commonly know to be pronounced as "GEEF" but was meant to be pronounced as "JEEF".<br><strong>How many bits per pixel does the format support?<br></strong>8-bits per pixel.<strong><br>How big is the colour palette?<br></strong>As it is a 8-bit image the colour depth is 256 colours as 2<sup>8</sup> is 256.<strong><br>Which colour space does the GIF format use RGB or CMYK?<br></strong>GIF uses RGB (Red, Green, Blue). <br><strong>Does it support animations?<br></strong>Yes, on the web GIF is known as the format for animations because of it's low colour depth and resolution.<strong><br>Where is it most used?<br></strong>GIF is most commonly used on the internet in Reddit pages, Facebook meme pages and through some messaging services like Facebook messenger.<strong><br>What are they well suited for?<br></strong>Low resolution, low colour depth animations on the web.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>If a designer does you a digital photo in a GIF format the quality of the image will decrease a lot as there will be more than 256 colors in the image meaning colors will be deleted and replaced with colors that do not look as good as the original image.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Disadvantages of GIF format - Dithering</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>As stated in previous sections GIF can only hold 256 colors. Dithering is another way of saying reducing the number of colors of a full color photograph to fit into the 256 color bracket. The dithering is what brings quality of GIFs down as it is here when the pixels merge into singular blocked colors.</div>]]></description>
