Based on the topic, for question 1, perhaps we can use " Does energy drinks really harm our health?" as the main argument and for the counterargument we can say that it brings satisfaction to the consumers to quench their thirst.

For question 2, it is true that energy drinks can give satisfaction to the consumers to quench their thirst. Nevertheless, they may harm our health as energy drinks contain a high amount of caffeine and sugars. Besides, high consumption of caffeine is bad for mental health because according to Smit and Rogers (2002), energy drinks have around 80mg of caffeine doses per serving in which this level of caffeine doses is enough to make someone having psycho-stimulant effects. Thus, energy drinks shall be banned for Malaysians under the age of 18 to avoid them having serious illnesses at an early age.

For question one, we found that most people agreed that energy drinks should not be consumed as it have a high number of sugar content which can cause diabetes and obesity. However, some people disregard the information and insisted on saying energy drinks act as a performance enhancer and is safe to be consume.

For question 1, people argue that energy drinks should not be consumed due to the high level of caffeine, sugar and additives which then eventually leads to health risk such as heart problems, diabetics, obesity and many more. But on the other hand, certain people agree that energy drinks boost their energy throughout the day and they also agree that it has not much of the side effects compared to coffee and tea which has a higher amount of caffeine compared to energy drinks.

For question 2, Yes, Malaysians under the age of 18 should be prohibited from consuming energy drinks. Energy drinks are cool and have a fast cure for your energy needs, but the possible benefits do not come without any risks. Energy drinks may be prohibited because of the high caffeine content, which has been attributed to a slew of health issues in adolescents, including headaches, stomachaches, hyperactivity, exhaustion, and sleep issues, as well as lower results, attention, and actions in the classroom. Caffeine tolerance is poorer in young people, making them more susceptible to the toxic effects of caffeine. Data from the New South Wales Poisons Information Centre and the United States National Poison Data System show the majority of energy drink cases involved children and adolescents. The elevated risk of high blood pressure, arrhythmia, and premature mortality in young adults with pre-existing heart conditions is especially concerning. Thus, banning energy drinks for those under the age of 18 prevents them from developing serious health issue early-onset.

Referring to question one, the argument is about the banning of energy drinks among younger children under the age of 18. Some people believe that the banning of energy drinks to under 18 is not appropriate because it makes the drink fall under the same category as alcohol and fireworks, products which portray a demonstrable risk to users. However, energy drinks are widely promoted and can be said as a normal drink to consume in a day as if it’s content would not harm one's health especially children with the excess intake of caffeine. Thus, the label, trigger and even age restricted is practically important to be displayed and practiced for selling energy drinks.

Answering question two, the high intake of energy drink among young people in Malaysia becomes a common based on statistic from Statista (2021) which include almost 10 thousands respondent with almost 50% of the consumer of energy-boosting drink with high caffeine and guarana content are young people between the age of 16-24 in 2019. This statistic shows how high the probability for children under 18 in Malaysia to consume energy drinks in a day. However, the mentality of consuming energy drinks is normal and common among teenagers can be refuted by the banning of it as well as proving how the critical impact energy drink can give to children under 18 who are more likely to have low tolerance to high doses of caffeine specifically. Thus, energy drinks should be banned for Malaysian under the age of 18 to prevent health problems at a younger age.

To answer question 2, yes, I agree that energy drink should be banned from consuming for Malaysians under the age of 18. Energy drinks, a category of beverages commonly taken to boost energy and alertness, have grown in popularity in recent years. Energy drinks are promoted to young adults, and it has been stated that students are the most frequent consumers of energy drinks (Balaji, 2014). Energy drinks may be harmful to children's health, potentially triggering a slew of difficulties such as headaches and stomach aches, as well as hyperactivity and sleep problems. A study was conducted back in 2014 to study on how the consumption of the energy drinks would affect academic performance of university students. The most favoured brand was Red Bull and consumers also reported negative impacts, with 45 percent having difficulty sleeping. In young children context, a rapid growth in high-calorie beverage intake is being widely recognized as a cause for worry, particularly among young children, not only because such beverages provide a high caloric content with little or no nutritional benefit, but also because they displace other nutritious dietary options (Foo, Lee, Suhaida, et al., 2020). Thus, what is there to discussed whether or not we should banned energy drinks from the under 18 from consuming?

In my perception, energy drinks should be banned for Malaysians under the age of 18. To begin with, according to Ministry of Health Malaysia, energy drinks have increasingly become a source of caffeine overdoses among consumers under the age of 18. This was caused by too much stimulants and chemicals that gave outcome such as dehydration, heart palpitations, insomnia and increased heart rate in both children and adults. But in children, these symptoms usually can become more extreme where it came to phase where kids that consume energy drinks can even led to seizures, stroke and death in rare situations (Abdul Kadir, 2017). We should avoid the health issues that have been happening in Canada recently. Consumption of energy drinks, which contain huge amounts of caffeine and other stimulants, sugars, and even amino acids (taurine) has increased dramatically among young Canadians in recent years. To explore further, Britnell (2015) from the University of Waterloo conducted a nationwide survey asking 2,055 young Canadians aged 12 to 24 about prior consumption of energy drinks. Lastly, by not consuming energy drinks yourself, it will help protecting the young generation in the future. Energy drinks are may satisfie s some people but for children, the stimulants and high amounts of sugar put their developing bodies and health at greater risk. Modeling healthy behavior for your children now may prevent them from using the energy drink in the future.
