"With two notes you have strcture, and you are already graduating into the possibility that someone else has played that structure before. But with a single note you have authenticity, because nobody else has played the single note the exact same way" - Ratliff pg. 72

Repeating a single note adds emphasis in a song wherever it needs to be. It makes you appreciate the song more because your brain is trying to differentiate the difference in the same notes. Like in the example Ratliff used in the book, he used the song “Church Bell Tone”. The first bell sound was to get your attention and make you aware of what was going and then every sound after that produces more and more familiarity. Every note is the same, but it isn’t. Ratcliff explained that even though each note is the same, the musician can play that note in a number of ways. I do agree with this concept of the single one because I believe that it is easy to make a song unique using different notes, but it takes a special kind of person to make a song unique using the same notes.
