CIIT is one of the prestige schools of the Philippines in terms of Multimedia Arts. Mr. Sherwin O, President of CIIT, is today's speaker and he shared with us about his job and how the institution works. He also included the statistics for the last two academic years which was fascinating for us freshmen that are new to the school and also haven't experienced it yet because of the pandemic. It also showed how the issue of COVID-19 has affected the school's performance last semester since it is still adjusting to the new normal. With all great intent, I still think that the school have made great efforts for the betterment of this semester.

One very inspiring part of Mr. O's talk was the vision of the school.
"Turning your passion into future careers" and "Leading the way towards a globally competitive Philippines".

He began to talk about what do we want to be and who do we want to be which gives us, the students, a reality check that we are here to learn the ropes of the industry from our freshmen years until we graduate. Slowly, we should build up our portfolios and with the school's help, the teacher's guidance, and ciitizens support for one another, we will make our dreams come true.

Reflection: Student Formation Officer

In CIIT, the Student Formation Officer or SFO is the one primarily responsible for promoting student character formation, ensuring and maintaining proper students' decorum, and instilling the values of responsibility, initiative, and vigilance to students. The SFO is striving to prevent, rather than giving offense, to the erring students. They always promote discipline approaches and are willing to help students. As Fr. Charles Gilbaliga has stated during the lecture, we should be wary and responsible in dealing with our problems. There are right people to talk about it like the Guidance Counsellor or even close friends that would understand your situation.

One statement that caught my attention from Fr. Charles' speech was "Di mo makakausap ang estudyante kapag di ka nag reach out". It made me think how much this person thinks for the betterment of the student. How caring for an individual to extend help as much as possible for someone desperately in need.

We also discussed what is discipline, a part of the talk is also a small lesson for Latin. Discipline is from the word "Disciplina" which is a Latin noun that means "instruction and training" and "Discere" which is a Latin verb that means "to learn".
He added a quote saying, "Discipline is not something others do to you. It is something you do for yourself." Discipline has a standard and is applied to everyone. It is also not the rules, regulations, or punishment. If people commit mistakes, we need to be corrected not punished.

The moral of this week's lesson is that people has problems and it is inevitable. But! There are people out there that are willing to help you in your desperate times. People who will give you guidance and instructions which will help you in helping yourself be the better you. In the end, we are not studying for school but for life.

Reflection: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

First is to be a proactive person by stop focusing on the negativities of your life and start to focus on things that you can control which helps us build a bigger circle of influence. Complaining is not going to help but your actions for it will. There are things that you cannot control directly but you can control how you react to things.

Second is to begin with the end in mind. Before any major decisions, think about the end. Is your actions going to be for the person who you want to be? For some people it is hard because they tend to be reactive to situations like stated on the first habit which they focus on emotions and not focusing on solutions. Everyone has a personal mission statement, and to keep that in mind is the key into thinking about the end or your goal.

Third is to put First Things First. It discusses how the urgent and important matrix works. By doing what is not urgent and at the same time important at that time , It will prevent the "thing" to becoming something that is urgent and be rushed in for the last minute. For psychologists, Cognitive Dissonance is a habit that is unhealthy and will only disconnect from what we want to do and what we actually do.

Fourth is to think win-win. A Mutualistic relationship where both benefit from living together. For someone to win, no one needs to lose. By starting searching for win-win relationships, people will surely be a highly effective person other than someone who is focused in defeating someone else.

Fifth is to seek first to understand, then to be understood. We were born by seeing the world in our eyes but by trying to understand other people's perspectives or point of view, we gain clarity and thus understanding each other leads to effectiveness. My psychologist does this when we do psychotherapy. She never fails to understand what my feelings are and gives proper advice.

Sixth, Synergize. To put it simply, moving with others to work as a team to help benefit each other.

Last and the Seventh Habit is to Sharpen the Saw. Investing your time and effort to things that will greatly benefit you into reaching your goals. People can invest in many ways and it will surely be a contribution for you to being a highly effective person.

First three habits are what every highly effective people do when they manage about themselves and next three habits are how they do in society. And the last one is to learn to invest in things that matter in the long run. Focus on goals! Be mindful of others!

Reflection: 21st Century Skills

Today’s Industry is more so than not based with technology. In connection for students to adapt to the current information age, Author Bri Stauffer had written a blog entry to help them. She had listed twelve 21st Century Skills that is essential in surviving, competing, and striving in this age. Among the twelve, she had also divided it into three categories.

The First Category is called “Learning Skills” or “The Four C’s”. According to her, these skills are by far the most popular because they are considered as an Universal need for any career. Learning skills is composed of Critical Thinking which is essential to finding problems and making them fruitful efforts, Creativity which enables students to adapt and create concepts in a different perspective, Collaboration to enhance the student’s teamwork or ability to work well with others, and lastly is the Communications skill which I think is the most important among the four because it is how students will convey everything that they will learn in the first three.

The Second Category is called “Literacy Skills” or “IMT”. First, Information Literacy which helps students understand facts especially in this age which is also the age of misinformation. Next, Media Literacy which is the skill that lets students see credibility of the sources. Lastly, Technology Literacy is the ability of students to understand how technology works.

The Last Category is called “Life Skills” or “FLIPS”. As the name implies, these skills is personal but can be applied in a professional setting. Flexibility applies humility of the student to admit that there are a lot of things to learn and the ability to adapt into changing circumstances. Leadership is a common word that implies leading a team with steps required and goals in mind. Initiative is one of the hardest skill to learn because it varies from person to person. Together with initiative is Productivity, with them together is being efficient for a student because the rewards are greatly beneficial to them. Last and not the least is the Social Skills, it is quite different from the Communication skill. “Proper social skills are excellent tools for forging long-lasting relationships.”

This week's guest speaker is Mr. Ralph Cagabcab and he is from the Guidance Counselling Center or GCC for CIIT with the topic "#iMatter: The Power of Understanding Self". He had stated that we should let go of our defenses which I think is saying that we as an individual should open our hearts whilst talking or conversing with Sir Ralph so that we can further or explore ourselves, to learn more about us, and to learn about our classmates. Feel free to express during the activity!

We were given an activity. Sir Ralph had given a scenario in which we were an employee of a company and the boss had called us in for something important. The first question was "What do you think the reason the boss called you in?" A lot of us replied with different answers. During this activity, I noticed everyone's personality. In how they react to the situation and what was their first thought with it. Some answered positively like "for promotion" or a "birthday celebration" and some answered negatively with something like "being fired" or "salary deduction".

“True power lies in understanding yourself, accepting yourself, and having confidence in yourself."

Personality differs with each individual. It defines who people are. When we say personality it is a person's way of thinking and feeling and eventually how the person will put it into action. We have also discussed the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator or MBTI. It is one of the most popular personality tests in the world. And it shows 16 different personality types that an individual will likely show where they excel and where an individual is challenged in something. Our GCC has sent us the results of our MBTI and it turns out that I am an INFJ where I stands for being an Introvert, N stands for being Intuitive, F stands for Feeling, and J stands for Judging.

With great fascination with learning about myself, I am extremely delighted to know more and be more aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I am also made aware that every person needs different types of communication and how I should be considerate with others.

To access Canvas using a web browser, we just need to go to the URL: ciit.instructure.com and log in using your CIIT account. We can also access Canvas using our phones by downloading the app from playstore or apple app store and just the same, log in using your CIIT account.

By default, all of the courses can be found in the dashboard, and all your deadlines can be seen in your To Do. We should try to explore canvas by ourselves to familiarize ourselves with it. Like example where to see the Course Google Meet Links, Announcements, Assignments, and Modules. So in short, Canvas is a tool to be utilized by students and to help them in their online study journey.

Right Wing of the Library has the Librarian's Counter and we have a cafe corner so we are allowed to eat inside provided that we clean before we go. We have 4 library cubicles which we can have meetings or group studies as long as we keep quiet during our stay. "Always observe silence". It is available thru reservation. Now we are at the left wing, which has the amphitheater where orgs usually hold their activities like seminar, etc. It is prohibited to eat at the left wing and bags are not allowed in here.

And this time, the Clinic's goal is to promote health awareness and prevention to combat COVID-19. Precautionary Measures were given by miss to help us prevent from having the COVID-19 virus. Some of it is Avoid Crowded Areas or somewhere with poor ventilation, Wash our hands, and Stay at home. And even during the pandemic we were encouraged to do more physical activity to help us against obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, musculoskeletal problems, and sleep pattern disturbances.
