It was a unanimous vote to have Washington as the president. Washington only liked to be called "Mr. President", he did not like "Your highness". Washington knew the following presidents would follow him, so Washington had to set a good example. Washington declined his salary congress offered him be cause he was already wealthy and wanted to keep his image as as A selfless person. Along with refusing the money he practically came up with the term "president".
