The rule of humans destroying nature implies here too. People have built factories near water bodies so that they can release the toxic chemicals into the body directly. The addition of chemicals increases the temperature of the water body. temperature sensitive organisms lose their habitat. When excess chemical are released in lakes or river, the water may become saline. Villagers living near to a river, tend to wash their clothes in the flowing water. This practice, on large scale, pollute the water. Construction of dams also have serious consequences. It blocks the the flow of river hence flash floods may be caused in nearby areas. Overdrawing of water from lakes (because of overpopulation) leads to an imbalance in water table and extinction of species.
