They took off on April 11, 1970 from the Kennedy Space Center and returned on April 17.The crew ended up being blindsided by the fact that something was wrong with the spacecraft because Houston all of america and the astronauts on board thought that all was well and they would easily breeze to the moon. In order to land safely the people on board had to shut down one of the on-board systems to retain enough power to land the spacecraft. The American had payed attention to the take off and barely any ratings showed up for the live broadcasts they did on the flight. The original crew for apollo 13 was canceled and moved to apollo 16 and flew on the flight.
