Triangle - Likes emphasis on community, likes engaging beyond Dalton and the focus on the City. We have so many resources available. Important to bring in a broader viewpoints -- it is an educational experience, after all. Who are the Citizens -- students, parents, faculty, etc. Everyone must be onboard. What does "responsible citizenship" mean for us? Important to explore.
Square- LIkes the emphasis on the diverse community. Move forward from diversity to inclusivity.
Question - How to address the outer community (Parents/Alums). What's the admissions piece. Communications is KEY! How are we communicating this? How will Dalton help people understand, gain "buy-in." With admissions - make sure families "buy in" who we are. Must be transparent -- it's not just "marketing." Students must get "on-boarding" -- esp 6th graders who arrive. And also, 9th graders. But about continuity of the community -- how do you engage alums and families after "graduation." How do we keep Dalton families engaged beyond development. Continue the conversation about what happens outside the classroom -- conversation must continue at home. Alot of teaching gets lost without reinforcement at home. Must communicate core values. Communications is a huge piece o this whole endeavor.

The purposeful citizen is exciting. One thing to teach but another to give them agency.

Concerned about the diversity of thoughts vs. the demographical diversity. We must be clear about the community norms and make sure we keep the widest range.

Fluidity of gender is considered part of the diversity. Raises a good point - Who sets the norms? Is it coming from the kids, our faculty, our teachers, admin.

Swirling Question: How are the parents going to speak to their kids about these topics? How do we build upon what is taught? With respect?

Conferences are a good idea but we should be learning from others rather than saying we are the beacon.

Being in line with the mission at home. How are the teachers and administrators encouraging that diversity and openness? Is the school setting an example by encouraging diversity of thought and engaging in diversity of thought? Thinks we are doing a good job of creating room for it. Mission is back at home and at school. We want consistency in all environments. Examples: Same parents at events and may be "preaching to the choir". Maybe what they are doing at home isn't the same as at school. How do we engage parents that don't engage in the meetings? Idea: We can use curriculum night in a better way.

Listening Campaign - Community organizing model. Could be good to not just fill out surveys but have small groups of parents to truly discuss and communicate better.

Greater opportunities for engagement and further platforms. Offer a multitude of avenues.

Excites - inclusivity of the whole community. It's not just students and it is everyone.
Kindness and character.
Empathy
Spirit of collaboration
Respecting others viewpoints
Distinctive from academic achievement
Emphasis of taking it outside of the school
Service Learning and inclusivity of entire community
Service Learning and questions about the specifics
Squares - all of it. The Dalton Citizen is totally aligned in terms of kinds of children we are helping to raise and involvement outside of the school.
Empathy - some are not as empathetic as we would like them to be. Should be a goal to teach the practice.
How does empathy change as kids move from FP to HS?
Circle - Major challenges of how
How do we capture intellectual risk taking in the Dalton Citizen and not just the Dalton Student
What is the actual implementation?
What is circling is a happy student and not feeling stressed or overwhelmed.
Doesn't feel like enough academic focus.
Support faculty for what? What will they be doing?
Knowing yourself and your voice. Respectful confidence.
