This is the first written piece of material that they stuck with, inspired by John Locke's theory that all people have certain rights that they are born with. This document states that they are to be free from Britain and any rule in which Great Britain tries to impose on them, the list of grievances towards the king and the preamble in which they declare that they aren't to be controlled and are allowed to be happy. This was adopted in August 2, 1776. It was written by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert R. Livingston and Roger Sherman.

This is prevalent because this is how they declared independence from Britain. This made them their own colony which lead to the constitution.

This was a war that broke out between the colonies and Great Britain. Great Britain had a consistent history of treating the colonists unfairly whether it be from taxing them, mapping off territory, controlling trade or even downright violence. It started on April 19, 1775 and ended September 3, 1783. With many people including George Washington (the head of the counselor who eventually became the first president), Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, it ended in a victory for the colonists and they got their independence.

This is prevalent because this is where America first started. It is also the start of them mapping out their country. The birth of the thought of having personal rights was born here.

This is originally where the birth of the constitution was created, or the first constitution. This granted Congress the right to declare war or peace, natural rights like the right to speak, separation of power and so on. There were many errors within this, including but not limited to no official currency, problems with the separation of powers and other issues. The Articles of Confederation were written on November 15, 1777 by Benjamin Franklin.

This is prevalent because they had the first constitution mapped out. There were issues that they had to deal with later on before it could become finalized.

This was an uprising in Massachusetts where people were upset over how much of a crisis there was over debt. This was caused by The Articles of Confederation because of not only tax but because there was no official currency for all the colonies to come together on. It started August 31, 1786 and ended in June of 1787. One of the main protestors was a veteran by the name of Daniel Shays. This is what inspired the constitution to finally be discussed because people were upset with it.

This is important in tracking the constitution because people were actually upset over this. Chaos is what sparked the founding figures to finally sit down and fix what they started.

Constitutional Convention

This was held from May 25, 1787 to September 17, 1787. This is where a bunch of people got together to write the constitution finally. It is also referred to as the Grand Convention at Philadelphia since it was written there. The Virginia Plan was apart of this (inspired by James Maddison) and it was that both houses would be split equally. The people that attended were Alexander Hamilton, George Mason, James Wilson and a bunch of other people. The end result was the Constitution which was written by James Maddison.

This is important because this is where the constitution was finally created or the concept of it was. It took James Maddison a bit longer to finalize it and it took longer for it to be accepted by all thirteen colonies. They had something to found American on, though.

This occurred between both the people who were in favor of independence and those who thought that they needed Britain in order to be successful and survive. They were dependent on Britain for many things and many people were afraid that they wouldn't get by without their ruling. One of the major figures for the constitution was George Washington while the other was Patrick Henry. This occurred after it went into effect during 1789. This was an argument before then to so it technically can't be specified in date.

This was prevalent because this is what sparked the constitution and also why it took so long. People weren't quick to accept it even after it went into effect.

On June 21, 1788, this became the document for their country. It was accepted by all the colonies after New Hampshire accepted it (the last of the thirteen colonies). This meant that this was officially what the United States stood for. The country was following the Articles of Confederation up until this was accepted. There were clear changes including an official currency that were added to this document. The document was written by James Maddison.

This is the last step where the constitution was finally accepted and started to be used. It's still used today and it's what America is founded on. Without this document, the United States would be even more chaotic and unfair.
