Step 1:
An opening statement is a lawyer's first opportunity to tell the judge what they think about the case, what their theory is, what evidence they expect the judge will hear.
During an opening statement, the lawyer generally gives an explanation to the judge of what evidence they expect to call, including documents they might introduce and witnesses who the judge might hear from and what the lawyer expect the witnesses to say.

Step 2:
Example 2:
The lawyer talks directly to the jury. He makes a comparison between the cases on television and this case, to point out that this case is simple. He has a very clear and simple speech, with "points" ("point number 1", "point number 2", etc). He also marks pauses, firstly because he wants the jury to think about what he just said, and secondly because he wants to create suspense

Step 1 :

The opening statement is the first opportunity for the lawyer to advise the court, and confess what they think about the case. The lawyer gives an explanation to the judge of which evidences he/she expects to bring up.

Step 2 :

1) The lawyer introduces the case to the court. He gives information about the identity of his client. The lawyer anticipates how will answered his client. Then he gives, to the judge, a full description of his client's moves during the day of the murder.

2) The lawyer's opening statement is structured by crucial points to highly remember : he introduces his client and the case. He addresses his speech to the jury. His final word is : "they broke the law !" which reminds the full responsibility of the jury . In the movie, he looks straightforward to the camera.
The lawyer paused his speech, which gives the effect of suspense.
