Textiling factories began to move down to the south like Southern Mills, which produced more 70% of cotton and woolen. Working in these factories made woman feel like slaves. A letter written in 1937 by R.H.O adressed the factories labor conditions. Some conditions involved working 10 hours a day. The mill should have 3 eight hour shifts, or two 8 hour shifts with a considerable increase in their wages. The women and men too, draw from $4.00 to $12.00 per week. The letters also talked about how people had children (i.g. 4-5) and was difficult to try and take care of them.
