My perspective, as an Educator, on SAMR

I think the SAMR is very useful for a classroom. It is very important for students to engage and learn the concepts that they are being taught. By using the SAMR Model, students will be using technology to learn. I think that students are more excited to learn if they are not using the basic style of learning, by using textbooks and listening to a teacher lecturing. Overall, by using the SAMR Model students are having a proper learning experience. In the future when I am a teacher, I will definitely reflect back on the SAMR for my lessons.

Overview: Students will create a floor plan of different rooms with the same area per square centimeter. They will explore how rooms with sides of the different lengths can have the same area.

Objective: Apply knowledge of area to determine areas of rooms in a given floor plan.

In the lesson:
Students work with a partner to create a floor plan with the areas of the rooms that they have been given. The task is for students to find new side lengths for each room. After they find new side lengths, they mark each room on centimeter grid paper and then cut out the rooms. They use these centimeter grids to fit the rooms together to make their floor plan. They glue their final arrangement of rooms onto a piece of construction paper. Students will also label the area of each room on the construction paper. Allow students a few minutes to do a gallery walk of the completed floor plans.
