Photos from that period show a life filled with parties and dinner parties, tennis with friends, and holidays by the sea. She was the fourth child in a wealthy Jewish family where her parents ran a family business of trading. Before her fourteen years of life Edith had a carefree childhood but for reasons that remain unknown her older sister Bettina passed away which made Edith's confront of death at an early age. She still managed to get on with her life: she finished high school and worked in the family business for a few years. Edith met Otto Frank at an engagement party, eventually on 8 May 1925, the couple celebrated their civil wedding in Aachen, four days later, on Otto's 36th birthday, they had their Jewish wedding in the Aachen synagogue. The couple moved to a new housing in Frankfurt am Main, where Margot, their elder daughter, was born on 16 February 1926. Anne was born three years later. He was born on the 12 of May 1889 in Germany. He was the owner of a business bank in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He studied art history in Heidelberg. Then he went to work at a bank in New York. When he returned to Germany in 1909 his father has died and the First World War had begun. But when it ended Otto found a good job at the family bank. 
At the age of 36, Otto married Edith Holländer. The couple settled in Frankfurt am Main and had two daughters, Margo and Anne.
In early 1933, Otto and Edith took the plunge. They decide to leave Nazi Germany because of their business problems and the growing of Hitler and his followers. In the Netherlands, Otto worked hard to get his company going and build a new life for his family. Otto made every effort to emigrate to the US with the help of a former fellow student in order to escape the persecution of the Jews.

Anne spent the first four years of her life in Frankfurt am Main (Germany).  She was a cheerful and naughty toddler. During the first few years in the Netherlands, Anne suffered from health problems. In school she was ‘As soon as she entered the living room, things would get turbulent, especially since she often took a whole bunch of friends home. She was the first child of Otto and Edith Frank. For most of her live Margot stayed in her sisters shadow. Margot started school in Germany but later moved to the Netherlands when she was seven years old. Her parents felt that a regular Dutch primary school in their own neighbourhood would be best for her. Margot's report cards show that she was quick to pick up the new language. At the end of the school year, she already scored 3 on a scale of 5.
