How much more can we divert from general waste with 'last chance' messaging?
For example, I have seen 'general waste' bins called 'non-recyclable' or 'landfill' or 'Last resort' bins, which can help to change perceptions.
I have seen an example bin labelling which said: 'Plan B: Landfill. There is no plan B for our planet.'

Perhaps could trial stickers on the bin lids e.g.:
- Are you sure the item can't be recycled?
- Last chance to recycle!
- This bin is the last resort for your waste! Rethink: can it be reused or recycled?
**Amy

The use of language..... Scientific studies have shown that to initiate behaviour change you need to make the desired actions a normality. We need to be saying things like: 'All the other tenants in this building have food waste bins, you are the last ones left not to.' If recycling is normal and you are not doing it properly you are the one that is missing out.

The person who ties the bin bags in preparation to be taken away completes a quick feedback card, based on a quick visual assessment. If it’s the cleaner’s job, this could be an additional task. The card gets left by the office bin after the bag has been removed.

Some of the office cleaners I’ve spoken to feel frustrated when they see items put in wrong bins, but it isn’t their responsibility to fix the issue (i.e to remove wrong items), nor should it be. But with feedback cards they could make a difference. Not an immediate fix, but it could reduce the problem over the longer term. **Alistair
