LAKE HILLIER
A lake in Australia’s Recherche Archipelago is known for its unique pink color. Surprisingly, the lake stays pink year round but it can only be admired from above in a helicopter because of research purposes. I remember reading about this lake when I was a little, and ever since thenI have wanted to go to Australia to witness it with my own eyes.

AUSTRALIAN ABORIGINAL ART
The artwork created by the Aboriginal people is very important because they had no written language. All of their stories and meanings are present within simple looking artwork that contains much deeper meanings and symbolism. The Aboriginal people would often disguise their sacred designs to hide the deeper truths from the Westerners.

PARRTJIMA FESTIVAL
This an Aboriginal light festival where technology is used to display art from Indigenous artists. The festival spans 10 days and celebrates culture, art, and music. Every year there is a theme to this light festival, and this year the theme is to showcase the many indigenous languages of Central Australia. I have always really loved art and lights festivals, so this festival seems like it would be a unique and amazing experience for me to enjoy and understand Australian culture.

MUSIC: TAME IMPALA
For a longtime now, I have been obsessed with the music of an Australian band called Tame Impala. Tame Impala originated in Perth, Western Australia. Although, now they have gotten to be such a phenomenon that they are currently touring all over the world. I really enjoy all of their albums because they sound so different from what we typically hear on the radio nowadays. Tame Impala has definitely furthered my interest in Australia as a whole.

WONDERS: GREAT BARRIER REEF
Located just off the coast of Queensland Australia, lies the world’s largest coral reef system. It is home to more than 1,500 types of fish. I recently took a trip to Hawaii where I was able to snorkel a couple times, and I only saw a few fish but still had a great time. Now, I would absolutely love to visit the Great Barrier Reef because I know that the coral and aquatic life present within this natural wonder is even larger and more unique than anywhere else in the world.

ARCHITECTURE: NEWMAN COLLEGE
Newman College at the University of Melbourne is known for its stunning architecture that dates back to the early 1900’s. Walter Burley Griffin was a very well known architect in Australia that designed it, and to this day the college serves as an example of Griffin’s “distinctive sculptural style”.

Australia has ALWAYS been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember. I was fascinated with the idea of the only “pink lake” located in Australia, and I promised myself that one day I will go see it in person. I really want to go to Australia still because I feel that Australia really does have it all, from beaches to opera houses to kangaroos. Hopefully I’ll be lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit this extraordinary place one day.
